ASHLEY HUNTER OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a junior pitcher from Benton, La., has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Tuesday, February 9 through Sunday, February 28.
Hunter went 2-0 last week for the Ladies, picking up a win over Hendrix last Thursday before returning to the circle on Saturday to earn a win over Millsaps. For the week, Hunter pitched 11 innings, scattering just nine hits, and allowing just two earned runs for an ERA of 1.27. She struck out seven and walked just three, while averaging 4.45 strikeouts per seven innings.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore pitcher Marissa Vasquez of St. Thomas went 0-1 last week in two starts for the Celts. Vasquez threw 13.1 innings, allowed six earned runs, 18 hits and struck out three. Freshman pitcher Ashlyn Strother of Texas Lutheran picked up a win against No. 13 Mary Hardin-Baylor and a complete-game victory against NCAA DII opponent St. Edward's last week. She tossed nine innings and allowed just three runs (all against St. Edward's). She struck out 11 and walked just one. Her ERA for the week was 2.33. She struck out five against UMHB and struck out six against St. Edward's. Senior pitcher Allie Holbrook of Trinity picked up wins in both of Trinity's victories against 13th-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor and NAIA's Our Lady of the Lake. Holbrook scattered eight hits over 5.2 innings against No. 13 UMHB on Wednesday, then struck out four batters in the game one win against OLLU. She allowed just three earned runs in both games.
