JACOB WILSON OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a first-year defensive back from Shreveport, La., has been named the SCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, October 19. SCAC Football Release (Week 7)
Wilson came up with a game-defining play on Saturday for the Gents in their thrilling 28-21 comeback win at Lyon as he intercepted a Scots' pass and returned it 24 yards with the game tied at 21-21 and only 53 seconds remaining. The Gents took over at their own 35-yard line and moved 34 yards in five plays and scored on a TD pass with 15 seconds left to win. Wilson added four total tackles and two pass breakups.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior linebacker Herman Lee of McMurry had six tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble against fifth-ranked Hardin-Simmons on Saturday. McMurry held the Cowboys' vaunted running game to 106 yards and no rushing TDs, and the 17 points scored was the team's season-low. Sophomore linebacker Tyler Ward of Texas Lutheran posted his first career double-digit tackle game in TLU's 55-17 win over Austin College. The second-year player finished with 10 total tackles (five solo), including a tackle for loss and a sack.
