MADDIE VACULA OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a first-year from Belton, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during meets swam Monday, Janaury 10 to Sunday, January 16. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 8)
Vacula continued her impressive rookie season on Saturday at the Austin College Invitational in Sherman, Texas, claiming a pair of individual wins in the 1650 free and 500 free. She swam season-best times in both events, 18:40.06 in the 1650 and 5:27.85 in the 500.
Vacula now has six individual wins and three runner-up finishes this season.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Sammi Thiele of Austin College posted a time of 31.84 in her breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay and added first-place finish in the 100 breast (1:09.63), 100 free (56.13) and 200 breast (2:30.20) at the Austin College Invitational. Senior Key Macfarland of Colorado College was three for three on Friday at the CC vs Adams State dual meet - posting victories in the 200 free (2:04.43; personal-best) and 200 IM (2:18.76), and was part of the winning 200 free relay. Junior Rosie Wade of the University of Ozarks won the 1000 free (11:26.32), the 500 free (5:43.16), and split a 26.12 to win the 200 free relay at Tuesday’s Ozarks/Hendrix Dual. At the Austin College Invite, Wade placed first in the 200 fly (2:23.18), second in the 200 back (2:24.11), and second in the 100 fly (1:04.54).
