Troy Tomaselli, Texas Lutheran University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 1)

TROY TOMASELLI OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore defensive back from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, September 7. SCAC Football Release (Week 1)

Tomaselli, the 2023 ASC Tri-Freshman of the Year, was a force Saturday night, finishing with eight tackles, a forced fumble, an interception and a pass break up in the Bulldogs' 35-20 upset of No. 13 Trinity. The TLU defense held Trinity to just 179 yards passing, the program's lowest single-game passing number since a 157-yard effort on Nov. 19, 2022 against Hardin-Simmons.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defensive back Mason Davis of Lyon had eight tackles, including six solo and one sack, and also returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown in the Scots' 48-28 victory over Grinnell College. Sophomore defensive lineman Kane Strohman of McMurry had 10 tackles, including five solo, in the War Hawks' 24-20 lsos at Southwestern. First-year defensive back Jacob Wilson  of Centenary had a pair of interceptions on Saturday night in the Gents' season-opening loss at home to Hendrix College. Wilson's second pick of the game led to a Centenary TD two plays later as the local product from Evangel Christian Academy finished with two solo tackles to go with his two INT's.
