ASHLYN STROTHER OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore right-hander from Seabrook, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 28 through Sunday, March 6. SCAC Softball Release - Week 5
Strother was dominant in the circle for the Bulldogs at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia last week. She went a perfect 3-0 with two complete games and 31 strikeouts, allowing just six runs and scattering 13 hits across 18 innings for work. Prior to last week, Strother had just three appearances in which she reached double-digit strikeouts and posted back-to-back such performances in wins over St. John Fisher and Trine with 12 and 13 strikeouts respectively. In total, Strother posted a 2.33 ERA with 31 strikeouts and just three walks in 18 innings of work.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year pitcher Taylor McKenzie of Soutwestern went 1-1 in two appearances against Dallas last weekend in SCAC action. McKenzie did not allow a single run earned in 7.2 innings pitched, striking out 14 with only six hits allowed. She showed great composure in Southwestern's win, entering the game in the sixth inning with bases loaded and one out, getting the Pirates out of the inning unscathed. Senior Lindsey Longuet of St. Thomas went 1-1 last week in the circle against Schreiner last week for the Celts. In total she went eight innings, allowed just three earned runs and struck out nine, posting an ERA of 2.63. Senior Cat Patterson of Trinity earned a win in both of her appearances last week as the Tigers swept their SCAC weekend series at Centenary and went 3-2 overall. Patterson notched a pair of complete-game victories in her two games pitched over the weekend, posting an ERA of 3.23, allowing six runs, and yielding just two walks in 13.0 innings of work. Her best outing came in the series finale on Saturday as she scattered seven hits over six innings, allowing just one run in the team's 9-1 win.
