LUIS GREEN OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from Monterrey, Mexico, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 3rd through Sunday, October 9th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 6)
Green made history last weekend, becoming the SCAC’s all-time leader in goals scored with his brace in the Bulldog’s 5-0 win over Centenary last Friday night. In the 86th minute, Green put away his second goal of the match and took sole possession of first all-time with 74 career goals, passing Oglethorpe’s Will Lukow. Lukow, which held the record since 1994, scored 73 goals in 73 career games, while Green scored his record-breaking marker in his 73rd career fixture. Green finished the weekend with two goals and three assists for a total of seven points to help the Bulldogs post a 1-0-1 record.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior forward Zaaron Gonzalez of Schreiner scored twice in the Mountaineers, 4-3, victory over Austin College last Friday. Sophomore midfielder Michael Grimm of Southwestern accounted for both goals in the Pirates’ 2-0 win over Centenary last Sunday. He buried the open goal of the contest and then assisted on the insurance marker to help lift Southwestern to a 2-0 week in SCAC play, securing six important point on the table. Senior forward Michael Somerville of Trinity had an incredible weekend and was a big part of the reason the Tigers grabbed their first two road wins of the season. He scored five goals on the weekend to tally 10 total points. On Friday, Somerville scored a career-high four goals in the 8-0 shutout win over Dallas. Somerville then scored the first goal of the match in the 3-1 win over Austin College.
