Welch controlled Saturday's game against Southwestern throughout with four huge punts including two punts inside the 20. The senior all but etched his name in the TLU record book by increasing his season average to 44.5 yards, passing the previous program record of 43.0 yards held by Harold Anderson since 1962.
Welch currently ranks second in NCAA Division III in punting and his 44.5 yards per punt just trails the league's all-time single season average record of 44.9, set by Rose-Hulman's Bob Burwell in 1978.
