TRISTON MCGOWAN OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior right-handed pitcher from Vidor, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Friday, February 10 through Sunday, February 16. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 2
McGowan went the distance in his first start of the season, striking out 11 and allowing two unearned runs on four hits and three walks to pick up the win and complete the sweep over Centenary on Sunday.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior right-hander Hunter Poe of McMurry worked 5.0 innings, allowing only two hits and one earned run, as the War Hawks took the conference series finale against Concordia (Texas), 12-6. Poe, who struck out six without walking a batter, picked up the win and improved to 2-0 on the season. Junior right-hander Garrett Guinn of Southwestern picked up his first save of the 2025 season, facing 17 batters, striking out four while allowing just three hits and no runs in his five innings pitched in Sunday's 6-4 win against Dallas. Junior right-hander Aiden Shea of Ozarks threw a five-hitter over six innings to push the Eagles past Schreiner in game two of the conference three-game series. Shea, who fanned three en route to picking up the win, forced numerous groundouts during his time on the mound, including three straight in the second inning. Senior right-hander Jack Briese of Trinity came on in relief during the final game of the weekend and led 15th-ranked Trinity to a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series sweep of Austin College. Briese earned the win by pitching the final 3.1 innings of game three on Saturday, allowing one unearned run on just one hit. Austin College had their best offensive game of the series going with seven runs and five hits over the first five innings, but Briese came in and slammed the door to set up the Tiger offense for a late-inning explosion that led to a 19-8 win in eight innings.
