ANNIE KAY OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior outfielder from Sinton, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Hitter-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 24 through Sunday, March 30. SCAC Softball Release - Week 8
Kay led the Bulldogs offensively last week in a perfect 4-0 record, including a win over Trinity and a series sweep of Ozarks. Kay posted an impressive .571 batting average (8-for-14) posting multiple hits in three of the four contests and drove in eight runs. She finished the week with three multiple RBI performances and drove in at least one run in all four games. Kay constantly put pressure on the defense, finishing the week with nine stolen bases and six runs scored. She now leads all of NCAA Division III with 34 stolen bases on the year.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior catcher Abby Touchet of Centenary had another outstanding week at the plate for the Ladies as she finished 8-for-15 (.533) with a home run, two doubles, three runs scored, and a pair of walks while boasting a .556 OBP and slugged .867. Touchet helped lead the Ladies to a DH sweep of LeTourneau on Tuesday and a weekend sweep of the Crusaders. She had a trio of multi-hit games and did not strike out in 15 at-bats in the five games last week. Junior outfielder Malarie Mican of Concordia put on a show in a series sweep over Schreiner last weekend. She posted team-highs of a .700 batting average (7-10), .727 on-base percentage, seven runs scored, and four stolen bases. In game one, Mican went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, one RBI and a pair of stolen bases. In game two, Mican tallied another two runs and earned a walk. She then had a nearly identical stat line in game three from game one where she went 3-for-4 again with two runs scored and two bases stolen. Junior utility player Trista Brown of McMurry led the War Hawks to a 3-2 record last week, including a series sweep over Austin College. Brown batted .429, going 6-for-14 at the plate with four runs scored, two RBI and four walks to post an impressive .556 on-base percentage. Junior catcher Chloe Bennett of St. Thomas was a force at the plate, hitting .429 over four games as the Celts posted a 1-3 record against non-conference opponents. She racked up six hits, including three doubles and a triple, while driving in eight runs and scoring three times. Bennett also swiped a base and posted an impressive .786 slugging percentage. Sophomore catcher Hannah Boudreaux of Trinity led the Tigers to a 2-2 record over the last week, which included its SCAC weekend series win on the road against Southwestern. Boudreaux batted .467 (7-for-15) with three runs scored and nine RBI, hitting two doubles and a home run to boost her slugging percentage to .800 for the week.
