ELLA WHITACRE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore outfielder from Roanoke, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Hitter-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 24 through Sunday, March 2. SCAC Softball Release - Week 4
Whitacre was red-hot as the Trinity softball team went 5-0 over the weekend, sweeping a three-game SCAC series from Dallas before sweeping a Sunday DH from Howard Payne. Whitacre hit an astonishing .667 (12-for-18) for the five games, scoring eight runs and driving in three more, and also recording 11 stolen bases in 11 attempts. She had at least two steals in each game, highlighted by three steals in the opening game of Saturday's DH with Dallas. Whitacre went 2-for-3 in that game with three steals and three runs scored. She then closed the series with a 3-for-4 performance that included two runs and two stolen bases. Whitacre hit .700 (7-for-10) with seven runs scored and seven stolen bases in the SCAC series with Dallas. This season, Whitacre is currently leading the SCAC with a .538 batting average (21-for-39) and is leading the Tigers with 15 stolen bases (third in the SCAC). She is also tied for the team lead with 13 runs scored (tied for third in the SCAC).
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior outfielder Erica Otto of Southwestern went 9-for-12 (.750) with a double and a triple (1.000 slugging) and was just a home run away from hitting for the cycle in the last game of the Pirates' three game sweep of Austin College. Otto also had two stolen bases and scored five times. Sophomore utility Kylie Kirk of Concordia (Texas) was dynamic in a week the Tornados posted a 4-1 mark, which included taking two of three games from St. Thomas in a key conference series. Kirk led the Tornados with eight RBI, four walks, three doubles, a homerun, and a .917 slugging percentage. She averaged .417 at the plate with a .529 on-base percentage and added three stolen bases. Senior catcher/designated hitter Abby Touchet of Centenary finished a red-hot .538 (7-for-13) with six RBI and a pair of home runs over the weekend as she helped lead the Ladies to a series sweep of Ozarks on the road. Touchet, in her first season after transferring from TLU, also had two doubles, scored three runs, and did not strike out all weekend while finishing with a .571 OBP and slugged 1.154. She had at least two hits in all three games, one three-hit performance, and scored a run in each game while playing both catcher and DH. Senior first baseman Faith Hernandez of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs to a Sunday sweep of Carnegie Mellon with four RBI while going 4-of-6 at the plate, including a double. First-year catcher Ana Zazoya of St. Thomas delivered an outstanding performance at the plate, hitting .750 across three games. She went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI, showcasing her ability to drive in runs in key moments. Sophomore first baseman/designated player Reaghan Staehely of McMurry went 4-for-6 (.667) with one run, one double and one RBI in the War Hawks' three-game conference sweep of Schreiner. First-year catcher/utility Isabella Husley of Ozarks went 6-for-11 (.545) and totaled three RBI over three games against Centenary.
