ASHER BONNELL OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior outfielder from Round Rock, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for games played from Monday, April 10 through Sunday, April 16. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 10
Bonnell continues to swing a hot bat, posting a team-high .412 batting average last week to help lift the Bulldogs to a perfect 5-0 record, including a SCAC series sweep at home against Austin College. He went 7-for-17 at the plate with a remarkable nine runs scored, including an RBI in each contest and four multi-RBI efforts. Bonnell scored four runs and stole three bases .
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year first baseman Collin Pitts of Centenary had a big weekend at the plate for the Diamond Gents in their three-game series sweep over Schreiner in conference play at home. Pitts blasted the first two home runs on consecutive days and finished the series 3-12 with three RBI, three runs scored, and a stolen base. Sophomore catcher James Vaquero of Southwestern was critical in lifting the Pirates to their first series win over Trinity since 2012. In the rubber match on Saturday, Vaquero went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored in a 2-1 victory. Junior outfielder Kyle Bearden of St. Thomas had a great week for the Celts, hitting a remarkable .583 with seven hits and three RBI. In addition, he drove in three runs, drew five walks and posted an impressive .706 on-base percentage to help St. Thomas post a perfect 4-0 record last week. Sophomore infielder Michael Lustina of Trinity led the Tigers with a .353 (6-of-17) batting average last week, including two hits and two RBI in the team's series-opening win against No. 24 Southwestern.
