SYDNEY SHAW OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior forward from Lockhart, Texas has been named the SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Friday, November 5 through Sunday, November 7. 

Shaw was outstanding last weekend, averaging 20.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game as TLU split a pair of games to open the 2021-22 season. In the opener, Shaw poured in a career-high 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting, grabbed seven rebounds and two steals in a loss to Hardin-Simmons. She followed that up with 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting with five rebounds, one assist and one steal in the Bulldogs three-point win over McMurry. In total, Shaw connected on 68.0 percent (17-for-25) from the field including 75.0 percent (3-for-4) from beyond the arc. Shaw, who had only previously reached double figures in scoring once in her career, has opened the season with a pair of double-digit scoring efforts and her 20.0 points per game average is currently 20th in all of Div. III.

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Jennae Mayberry of Centenary recorded her second career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to help life the Ladies to a 69-64 opening night victory over LeTourneau last Friday. Mayberry also added four assists and one steal as Centenary won its opener for the first time since the 2016-17 season. Senior guard Gabby Ivarra of Schreiner posted a pair of double-doubles last weekend as the Mountaineers went 1-1 to open up the season. In the opening night overtime win against McMurry last Friday, Ivarra scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds and then followed that performance up with 17 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks in a loss to Hardin-Simmons on Saturday. Freshman forward Jada Hollie of Southwestern filled up the box score for the Pirates, averaging 11 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.0 rebounds over two games last weekend. Hollie dished out a game-high four assists in the Pirates, 64-56, win over Howard Payne. Sophomore guard Micayla Hamilton of St. Thomas scored 19 points, grabbed three rebounds swiped three steals and added one assists in the Celts opening season loss to Dallas Christian last Friday. Senior center Hailey Coleman of Trinity led the Tiger women's basketball team to a 1-1 start to the year, bouncing back with a win over Mary Hardin-Baylor after a narrow season-opening overtime loss to second-ranked East Texas Baptist. Coleman averaged 15.5 points/game, 6.0 rebounds/game, and shot 63.2% (12-19) from the field and 83.3% (5-6) from the foul line. She also tallied four steals, two blocks, and two assists in the two games.
