Southwestern's Rogers, Hicks; TLU's Barrolle, Dowling Named SCAC Football Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -Texas Lutheran running back Marquis Barrolle and defensive back Drake Dowling repeat as SCAC Players of the Week while Southwestern's linebacker Tanner Rogers and quarterback Bryan Hicks also earned Player of the Week honors. 










SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 13th

MARQUIS BARROLLE OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 5-4, 150-pound sophomore running back from Ingleside, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Players-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 13th. 

Barrolle led the Bulldogs to a 37-14 win over Hardin-Simmons on Saturday afternoon. It was the Bulldogs first win at HSU in school history and avenged the team's only loss a season ago. 

Barrolle set a new TLU NCAA DIII-era record for carries in a game (46) and rushed for a career-best 218 yards. He scored twice, on runs of 2 and 18 yards.

Barrolle was two carries shy of tying the SCAC single-game record for total carries, averaging almost five yard per carry. He also hauled in three passes.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior tight end Kyle Crawford of Austin College was nearly unstoppable for Austin College in their week two matchup with East Texas Baptist, hauling in six passes for 153 yards - an average of 25.5 yards per catch - with a 58 yard touchdown in the game. Sophmore quarterback Bryan Hicks of Southwestern had a career high four touchdowns in the Pirates 27—20 win on Saturday over Sul Ross State, finishing 14-of-37 passing but throwing for 185 yards and accounting for all of Southwestern's scores in the win. Trinity did not nominate anyone.
 

SCAC CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, Septemeber 13th

TANNER ROGERS OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a 5-10, 195-pound sophomore linebacker from Bedford, Texas, and DRAKE DOWLING OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 5-8, 183-pound junior defensive back from Katy, Texas has been selected the SCAC Football Co-Defensive Players-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 13th. 

Rogers led a Southwestern defense that forced seven turnovers to take a 27-20 win over Sul Ross State, the Pirates first win in the sport of football since 1950.

Rogers finished with a game-high 11 tackles and had a huge presence in the backfield and secondary, coming through with a pick-six, however the return for a touchdown was waived off, but still set up a Pirate touchdown just two plays later.

Rogers also added one sack and four tackles for loss with two quarterback hurries.

With the Bulldogs clinging to a 21-14 lead in the fourt quarter, Dowling made the play of the game, interception a pass and returning it 57 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

Dowling also added seven tackles and a tackle for loss. It was the second straight game in which Dowling has intercepted a pass and seventh career interception.
 
Dowling and the Bulldog defense shut down the Cowboys, picking up a 37-14 in Abilene, their first win at HSU and avenging their only defeat from a year ago.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior linebacker Brooks Ward of Austin College had a huge game defensively for the 'Roos, making 13 tackles - including six solo stops and half a tackle for loss - and added an interception in the endzone against ETBU. Senior linebacker Connor Yorloff of Trinity finished with 11 total tackles, including 3.0 tackles for a loss of 13 yards, a seven-yard sack, and two pass breakups while holding Willamette to only 229 yards of total offense and four turnovers. 

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 13th


BRYAN HICKS OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a 6-0, 180-pound senior quarterback from Humble, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 13th. 

Hicks played a huge role in special teams, helping flip field position for the Southwestern Pirates in a 27-20 win over Sul Ross State, the Pirates first football win since 1950.

Hicks had two punts in the game, averaging 46.5 yards per punt with two punts landing inside the 20. He boom a long punt of 55 yards. 

Hicks also threw for four touchdowns at quarterback, accounting for all four scores for the Pirates. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman running back Undrell Thomas of Austin College was explosive in the return game all night for Austin College, consistently giving the 'Roos great field position on his kickoff returns and averaging 28.2 yards per return and totaling 169 yards on six returns. Sophomore punter Chadd Brown of Texas Lutheran punted four times for 161 yards, with an average of 40.2 and a long punt of 53. He put two punts inside the Hardin-Simmons 20, including the 53-yarder that was downed at the 2-yard line. Trinity did not nominate anyone.
