Colorado College's Holtze; Trinity's Courtney Earn SCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomore outside hitter Abbe Holtze of Colorado College and junior defensive specialist Shannon Courtney of Trinity University was named SCAC Volleyball Players of the Week for Week Four of the SCAC Volleyball season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 15th – September 21st

ABBE HOLTZE OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore outside hitter from Manhattan Beach, Calif., has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 15th through Sunday, September 21st.

Holtze played in all three matches to help the Tigers kick off conference play with a 3-0 record.

Holtze led the team with 36 kills over the weekend, with a .352 hitting percentage, and averaging 4.00 kills/set. She also added 36 digs, also averaging 4.00 digs/set over the weekend. She added five blocks and five service aces. Holtze had a season-high 17 kills to lead the team offensively and added 14 digs against Dallas, following that performance with a team-high 12 kills along with 15 digs against Austin College.

For the season, Holtze leads the conference with 188 kills on the season and 3.69 kills/set. Her 3.16 digs/set are top 15 in the conference while her season hitting percentage of .228 is one the best from outside hitters in the conference.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman outside hitter Rebecca Franklin of Austin College had a strong weekend for the 'Roos, tying for the team lead with 2.11 kills per set while also adding six total blocks, and added a .204 hitting percentage in her three matches over the weekend. Freshman outside hitter Desiree Frey of Centenary gathered 14 kills in the Ladies' three matches including a team-best seven kills against Dallas. Senior middle blocker Emily Caples of Dallas posted an excellent hitting percentage of .409 in conference play, and a .379 overall as she was consistent, compiling 11 kills in all four matches this week, helping the Crusaders go 3-1 overall. Senior setter Katie Darst of Texas Lutheran finished the weekend with back-to-back double-doubles, averaging 7.82 assists per set over the weekend including 41 against Southwestern. Senior outside hitter Maggie Emodi of Trinity led the team with 34 total kills and 3.78 kills/set, committing just seven errors in 101 attacks for a .267 hitting percentage. She was also second on the team with 42 digs (4.67/set) and third with eight blocks (0.89/set) on the weekend. Schreiner and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SHANNON COURTNEY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior defensive specialist from Houston, Texas has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 15th through Sunday, September 21st.

Courtney paced the Tigers to three victories over the weekend, opening conference play with wins over Southwestern, Texas Lutheran, and Schreiner.

Courtney finished the weekend with 61 total digs for an average of 6.1 digs/set. She also tied for the team lead with three service aces in the three matches, scoring one in each match.She led the team in digs in two of the three matches, with the only exception being the Schreiner match in which she played just one set. Courtney had her best match to open the weekend, recording 34 digs to tie for the fourth-highest single-match total in Trinity volleyball history.

For the season, Courtney leads the Tigers with 254 total digs, averaging 4.88 digs/set. She is also second on the team with 22 service aces (0.42/set).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore middle blocker Presleigh Watson of Austin College was a force in the middle for Austin College, totaling 14 blocks for an average of 1.56 per set in three matchesJunior outside hitter Rachel Perkins of Centenary led the Ladies with 17 digs including 1.89 digs/set. She also added 16 kills on the weekend. Senior defensive specialist Julia Lawton of Colorado College led the team defensively with 40 digs to average 13.33 digs a match and also had six aces for second on the team and added four kills from the back row. Sophomore outside hitter Jessie Koster of Dallas posted a week-best 21 digs in victory over McMurry and compiled 17 digs in pair of matches in the SCAC Divisional versus Colorado College and Austin College. Senior defensive specialist Megan Lee of Texas Lutheran averaged a season-best 9.0 digs per set in a 3-1 loss to Southwestern, finishing one dig shy of tying her season high in that match against the Pirates. Schreiner and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.
