Schreiner Closes NCAA Championship in Seventh; Peterson Named All-American

The 2014 National Champions concluded their final round with a 294, their lowest of the week, for a total score of 1188. The Mountaineers were able to shoot under 300 in all three rounds for the week. The Mountaineers finished the week fifth in both Par 3 scoring (+6) and Par 5 scoring (-3). Schreiner was also sixth on the weekend in pars with 218, ninth in birdies with 43, second in eagles with one, and even had the only hole-in-one.

Jimmy Keener led Schreiner and all SCAC participants in the champioship, shooting a 71 on the final day for a four round score of 288 and a fifth place finish overall. Keener was sixth in pars with 49 and 10th in Par 4 scoring for the week at +4.

Cheyne Kendall followed Keener with a 72 on the day. He had maybe the highlight of the entire week as he earned a hole in one on the Par 3 third hole which propelled Schreiner into fifth place at the time. Kendall would shoot a four round score of 293 for the week, finishing 13th. Kendall was third overall for the week in Par 3 scoring at -2 and also sixth in Pars, along with Keener, with 49. 

Rounding out the Mountaineers for the week was Phillip Stewart, shooting a 74 on the day for a total score of 304, Matt McClung, shooting a 77 on the day for a total of 311, and Zach Oliver, who shot a 77 on the day, recovering from a tough start in the final round, and earning a total score of 312.

Individually, Adam Peterson of Texas Lutheran shot a 74 in the final round for a four day total of 290 and earning a top 10 finish for the Bulldogs, placing eighth overall. Peterson was third in Pars with 51 and eighth in Par 4 scoring at +3.

Following the tournament, the GCAA announced their All-America first team with Peterson earning the honor. The SCAC Player of the Year won four tournaments in the spring and was terrific among the nation's best this past week.

Cody Hebert of Southwestern move up eight places on the leaderboard, shooting a 74 in the final round and finishing with a total score of 297. He placed 26th overall.

Methodist University claimed their 11th NCAA Title, holding off Wittenburg, LaGrange, and Berry to take the title. Kelby Sharmann of La Verne would capture the individual title, shooting a 70 on the final day for a four day total of 279.
