Men's Track & Field Recap (Week 4) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Four of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s track & field teams competed this weekend.

Colorado College traveled south to Colorado State University Pueblo for the CSU-Pueblo Open this weekend, taking on NCAA Division II competition.

The University of Dallas traveled to Florida to compete at the Walt Disney World Track & Field Open at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex this week.

Texas Lutheran University and Trinity University traveled to University of the Incarnate Word for the UIW Open.

Colorado College
The Tigers competed at the Colorado State University Pueblo Open this week, taking on several NCAA Division II teams. Despite finishing fourth among the teams, they scores points in nearly every race. Justin Nguyen got things started off with a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.99 seconds. He also posted an eighth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.99. In the 400, Gabe Fine took fifth with a time of 52.71 while teammate Sam Stansel finished in seventh with a time of 1:00.09. Tucker Hampson posted a fourth place finish in the 800 (1:59.60), followed by teammate Ethan Holland in sixth and Ryan Bing in eighth. A pack of Tigers finished 10th through 16th in the 1500 meter run, led by Sam English with a time of 4:21.71. The Tiger’s 4x100 meter relay took third place in the event with a time of 49.37 seconds. In the 4x400 relay, CC took fourth with a time of 3:38.42. During the field portion, Nguyen took sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.19 meters, just ahead of teammate Robin Li (5.04 meters).

University of Dallas
The Crusaders competed at the Walt Disney World Track & Field Open at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex this week. Kevin Doherty earned the first points for the Crusaders as he took second in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:27.54. The Crusaders also took second in the distance medley, with a time of 11:06.75. In the 1500 meter run, Ryan McAnany took second with a time of 4:19.94, while teammates Jack Grubner and Kevin Doherty finished sixth and ninth, respectively. McAnany also marked a top finish in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:07.72, cutting 11 seconds from his seed time and finishing more than 13 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. In the 10000 meter event, Grubner took second place with a time of 36:19.72. Dallas finished the competition in fourth place in a field of 16 teams.

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs stayed close to home as they competed in the University of the Incarnate Word Quadrangular. Starting things off, Bryce Johnson took fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.27 seconds. Marquis Brown earned a top finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.79 seconds, while finishing third in the 200 meter dash at 22.06 seconds. Jonathan Hilman took seventh in the 200 with a time of 23.86. In the 400, Brown was followed by teammates Zach Velasquez and William Cook who took third and fifth in the event. In the 800 meter run, Donald Manuszewski finished seventh with a time of 2:00.17. He later took eighth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:21.83. In the 110 meter hurdles, Jonathan Hilman took sixth with a time of 17.07 seconds, while Christopher Frank took sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:01.55).  In the 4x100 meter relay, the Bulldogs finished third with a time of 43.63 and in the 4x400 they took third with a time of 3:29.89. In the field events, Corbin Grobe led the Bulldogs in the long jump, with a mark of 6.30 meters, while teammate Reggie Scott took fourth (6.13 meters). Johnny Garcia took third in the shot put (11.37 meters) before finishing a spot behind Ethan Powell in the hammer throw. Powell took fourth in the event with a mark of 26.68 meters. He also finished third in the javelin throw with a distance of 41.93 meters.

Trinity University
The Trinity men traveled across the road to the University of the Incarnate Word Open. Starting things off for the Tigers, Eric Booker and Cody Wolfe took third and fourth place, respectively, in the 100 meter dash with times of 11.11 and 11.25 seconds. Adam Saunders finished sixth in the event with a time of 11.36. Booker also took fourth in the 200 meter dash to lead the Tigers, while Wolfe finished sixth. In the 400, Ian Plantz finished fourth with a time of 52.50 seconds. Michael Erickson took third place in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:08.86 and Plantz finished 11th in the event (4:28.55). In the 3000 meter run, Taylor Piske and Austin Brown took the top spots, finishing less than two seconds apart. Piske took first with a time of 9:06.63 and Brown followed at 9:08.09. In the 110 meter hurdles, Vincent Omegba took seventh with a time of 18.25 seconds. He posted the same finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.51. The Tigers 4x100 relay picked up a second place finish with a time of 42.89 seconds, and took fourth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:30.00. In the field events, David Stroud started things off with a third place finish in the high jump, posting a height of 1.83 meters. Teammate Louie Montoto followed in fourth, 1.78 meters. Montoto also finished fifth in the long jump (6.07 meters). Stephen Mason took the shot put title with a mark of 13.18 meters before taking third in the hammer throw (30.48 meters).
