LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Conference play got underway this past weekend as all eight schools were in action at two difference locations.
Colorado College and Trinity were the big winners, as they both went 3-0 over the weekend. Southwestern and Dallas each added 2-1 records over the weekend.
Austin College
The 'Roos started conference play in Irving, Texas, going
1-2 on the weekend. They got off to a great start, defeating
Centenary in straight sets thanks to a 11 kill performance from
Presleigh Watson. She also added six blocks in the game. Austin
College fell to Colorado College in straight sets and finished the
weekend with a straight set loss to Dallas. Watson finished the
weekend with 18 kills while Rachel Fusselman had 30 digs. Austin
College will travel to Shreveport next week for SCAC
Cross-Divisional matches.
Centenary
College
The Ladies opened up conference play in Irving, going
0-3, dropping all matches in straight sets. Centenary dropped their
opening conference match to Austin College and then falling to
Dallas and Colorado College is straight sets the following day.
Rachel Perkins led the way with 18 kills on the weekend while
Desiree Frey added 14 kills. The Ladies will host Cross-Division
play next weekend, welcoming in all seven SCAC schools.
Colorado College
The 10th-ranked Tigers were dominant to open the
conference season, winning in straight sets in all three matches
over the weekend. Colorado College started the weekend with Dallas,
earning a sweep thanks to a 17 kill performance from Abbe Holtze.
Against Austin College, Holtze was at it again, finishing with 12
kills in a sweep. The Tigers wrapped the weekend up with a win over
Centenary. Holtze finished with 36 kills while hitting .352 and
adding 36 digs for the weekend while Julia Lawton added 40 digs.
The Tigers will head to Shreveport next weekend for SCAC
Cross-Divisional play.
University of
Dallas
The Crusaders hosted the first Divisional of the season,
welcoming in three confernece opponents and going 2-1 on the
weekend. Dallas had an opening loss to Colorado College despite an
11 kill effort from Emily Caples, but bounced back with a sweep
over Centenary thanks to another 11 kill performance from Caples.
The Crusaders wrapped the weekend up with a sweep over Austin
College thanks to another great offensive performance from Caples.
She finished the weekend with 33 kills, hitting over .340 in all
three matches. Jessie Koster added 45 digs. The Crusaders will head
to Shreveport next weekend for SCAC Cross-Divisional play.
Schreiner
University
The Mountaineers traveled to Georgetown, Texas this past
weekend to open up the conference season. The Mountaineers had a
tough weekend, dropping all three matches without winning a set.
They opened things with a 3-0 loss to Texas Lutheran. The following
day, the Moutaineers fell to Southwestern and closed the weekend
with a loss to Trinity despite an 11 kill effort from Alyssa
Chapman. Chapman led the way with 23 kills while Lauren McQueen
added 34 digs over the weekend. Schreiner will travel to
Shreveport, La. this weekend as they will compete in SCAC
Cross-Divisional play.
Southwestern
University
The Pirates welcomed in three SCAC schools to Georgetown
as they opened up confernece play this past weekend. It all started
with a rematch of the SCAC Championship and NCAA Regional
Semifinals as they took on Trinity. Yet again, the match went to
five sets, but the Tigers were victorious again despite a brilliant
effort from Kaitlyn Foster who finished with 17 kills and 29 digs.
The Pirates bounced back with a sweep over Schreiner the following
day and ended the weekend with a strong 3-1 win over Texas
Lutheran. Foster was great all weekend, finishing with 34 kills and
62 digs. Southwestern will head to Shreveport this upcoming weekend
to take on the schools from the north at the SCAC Cross-Divisional
play.
Texas Lutheran
University
The Bulldogs opened up SCAC play in Georgetown, going 1-2
on the weekend. Texas Lutheran opened things up with a 3-0 win over
Schreiner thanks to a 12 kill performance from Kristin Fording. The
following day, in a pair of great battles, the Bulldogs dropped a
pair of four set matches to Trinity and Southwestern. Fording led
the way for TLU with 46 kills including 19 in the loss t the
Pirates. Megan Lee was excellent again defensively, totaling 74
digs including a 36 dig performance in the loss to Southwestern.
Texas Lutheran will be in action next weekend as they head to
Shreveport for SCAC Cross-Divisonal play.
Trinity
University
The 17th-ranked Trinity Tigers went 3-0 on the weekend to
open up SCAC play in Georgetown. In a rematch of the SCAC
Championship and NCAA Regional Semifinals, Trinity outlasted
Southwestern again, winning in a five set thriller thanks in part
to a 22 kill, 22 dig, six block performance by Maggie Emodi. The
following day, Trinity took a four set victory of Texas Lutheran
and then finished the weekend with a sweep over Schreiner. Emodi
was excellent, finished with 34 kills, 42 digs, and eight blocks on
the weekend. Layne Hubbard added a 30 kill, 57bdig performance for
th weekend. The Tigers will be back in action next weekend as they
travel to Shreveport for SCAC Cross-Divisional play.
