TLU's Barrolle, St. Ann; Trinity's Yorloff Named SCAC Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomores Marquis Barrolle and Donald St. Ann of Texas Lutheran University as well as senior Connor Yorloff of Trinity University were named Players of the Week for their efforts in week six of the SCAC football season.









SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, October 11th

MARQUIS BARROLLE OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 5-4, 150-pound sophomore running back from Ingleside, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 11th. 

It is the second consecutive week that Barrolle has earned the award and the fifth time this season.  

Barrolle went over the 200-yard mark for the third time in six games this year and went over 1,000-yards rushing with another big performance in a Bulldog win. He carried the ball 23 times for 247 yards in TLU's comeback 55-49 win over East Texas Baptist.

Barrolle opened the TLU game scoring with a seven-yard run in the first. He then scored TLU's first TD of the second half, on a 3-yard run, with 12:07 left in the third.

Barrolle now has 1,152 yards on 171 carries with 12 TDs through six games. The school record for rushing yards in a season is 1,208, set by Royce Johnson in 1972.

On the TLU drive that took 12 plays, covered 90 yards and took 6:25 off the clock in the fourth quarter,Barrolle carried the ball six times for 44 yards and produced three first-down runs.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore running back Dylan Wilburn of Southwestern recorded his second straight 100-yard rushing game this season as the Pirates dropped a 59-7 decision to NCAA Division II Oklahoma Panhandle State University. The sophomore scored on a 36-yard run in the fourth quarter to help keep the Pirates from being shutout this season. Senior running back Desmond King of Trinity led the Tigers' offense with the team's only touchdown in a 14-7 loss to the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon. King started the game in place of Travis Williams, who leads the team in rushing this season. King carried 11 times for 67 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown that went for 38 yards. He took an option pitch around the right side of the line for a 38-yard score – the second-longest run of the season for the Tigers. The fourth quarter score by King also allowed Trinity to keep a 20-year-old streak alive. The Tiger football team had not been shut out since a 28-0 loss in the NCAA Playoffs against Washington & Jefferson to finish off the 1994 season. For the season, King has 28 rushes for 114 total yards and two touchdowns. He has also caught seven passes for 38 yards. Austin College did not play.

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CONNOR YORLOFF OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 5-10, 208-pound senior linebacker from Katy, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 11th. 

Yorloff led a Tiger defense that allowed just 168 yards of total offense in a 14-7 loss to the University of Chicago on Saturday. He recorded a game-high 16 tackles for Trinity, picking up 1.5 sacks for a total of 10 yards lost. He also had a quarterback hurry and a forced fumble in the game.

The Tiger defense allowed just 61 yards of offense after halftime, and forced seven three-and-outs during the game.

For the season, Yorloff leads the Tigers with 64 total tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss of 33 yards. He has picked up 2.5 sacks for 17 yards lost, tying for the team lead in sacks. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore linebacker Darian Candler of Texas Lutheran recorded eight total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss (12 yards in losses) and had a key fourth-quarter sack of 10 yards in the Bulldogs' Homecoming win over East Texas Baptist. The sack came on 3rd and 6 from the ETBU 36 with TLU still trailing 43-41. Candler sacked Josh Warbington to force a three-and-out and a punt. Three plays after the punt, the Bulldogs were in the endzone and leading 48-43. Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award and Austin College did not play.

 

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DONALD ST. ANN OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY
, a 5-7, 155-pound sophomore punt returner/defensive back from Schertz, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 11th.

St. Ann had one of the key plays that triggered Saturday's comeback victory against East Texas Baptist. With the Bulldogs trailing 43-41 and a little over 11 minutes remaining in the game, St. Ann returned a punt 48 yards down to the ETBU 19. Three plays after the return, the Bulldogs found the endzone and the lead against East Texas Baptist.

St. Ann's punt return was the longest of his young career. Also a starting cornerback, the sophomore added three solo tackles as a defensive back.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year punter Davis King of Trinity led the Tigers' special teams effort in a 14-7 game in which ball control was crucial against the University of Chicago. King punted four times for 141 yards for an average of 35.2 yards/punt, pinning the Maroons inside the 20 on two of those punts. For the season, King has punted 21 times for 858 yards, averaging 40.9 yards/kick. He has three punts of more than 50 yards this season, and has pinned opponents inside the 20 three times as well. Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award and Austin College did not play.
