Trinity has Four Named to NSCAA All-West Region First Team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Four members of the Trinity University women’s soccer team earned NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Women’s All-West Region First Team honors.

Forward Emily Jorgens, midfielder Kelsey Falcone, and defenders Shelby Hopkins and Kirby Peddicord were elected to the prestigious team.  All four players were also voted to the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team.

Hopkins, a senior defender from Albuquerque, N.M., proved to be an important part of the Tigers’ prolific defense. Hopkins was selected as the 2014 SCAC Tournament Offensive MVP after helping Trinity shutout Texas Lutheran University in the championship match. On the season, Hopkins has also marked two goals and four assists for eight points.

Peddiord, a senior defender from Houston, Texas, was named the 2014 SCAC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the Tigers backfield. Peddicord notched three goals on the season, including the game winner in the second round of the NCAA tournament against the University of Redlands. Peddicord earned All-Region honors last season, being named to the second team.

Hopkins and Peddicord were a force on defense for the Tigers, allowing just seven goals on the season (0.29 per game). Trinity ranked eighth in shutout percentage (.708), after coming up with 17 clean-sheet games. The Trinity defense ranked fourth in the nation for goals against average.

Jorgens, a senior from Austin, Texas, finished her impressive college career this season, notching 19 goals, which ranked second in the SCAC, and 27 assists, which led the nation. Earlier in the season, Jorgens became Trinity’s all-time scoring leader with 59 goals. She also improved on her SCAC record for career assists, marking it at 88 for 206 points, which ranks second for most career-points in SCAC history. Jorgens was recently selected the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year for the second consecutive season. This is Jorgens’s fourth All-Region honor.

Falcone, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, was selected as both the 2014 SCAC Tournament Offensive MVP and 2014 SCAC Offensive Player of the Year this season after finishing the year with a team and conference-leading 20 goals, while adding a conference second best 15 assists, which ranked ninth in the nation. This is the third consecutive season that Falcone has been named to the All-Region First Team team.

Jorgens and Falcone led the third-ranked Trinity offense, which averaged 4.67 goals per game. The Tigers finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in the nation by NSCAA, and earned a bid to the NCAA tournament after winning the SCAC Championship for the sixth consecutive year.

After defeating UT-Tyler and Redlands at home to begin the NCAA tournament, the Tigers fell to Thomas More in the quarterfinals 1-0 in double-overtime.
