Women's Soccer Recap (Week 3) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference finished the third week of the women's soccer season this week.

Texas Lutheran and Schreiner competed in the first conference matchup this week, giving the Bulldogs an early lead in the conference standings with their 2-0 defeat of the Mountaineers.

No. 2 Trinity picked up two wins this weekend, improving to 4-0-1.

The conference match-up between Austin College and the University of Dallas set for Friday, September 12 was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Centenary Ladies picked up their first win of the season, beating Hendrix College 2-1 in overtime

Austin College
The 'Roos fell 2-0 to Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday, picking up just their second loss of the season. Goalkeeper Franchesca Lozoya recorded five saves on the day, facing seven shots on goal. Erin Eckart, Hannah Poenisch and Kat Harrington made up six of the 'Roos eight shots on the day with two apiece.

Centenary College
The Ladies split the weekend, falling in overtime Friday to the University of the Ozarks 1-0 before picking up their first win against Hendrix College. Against UO, Erica Coker recorded three saves in the goal, as the Centenary defense held their opponent to just six shots, four on goal. Madison Alexander led the Ladies with five shots, all on goal. Centenary picked up the team's first win of the season beating Hendrix 2-1 Sunday with an overtime penalty kick. Hannah Jo Wright connected on a PK four minutes into the overtime period for the game-winner. Madison Alexander was the first player to score in the game, giving the Ladies a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Hendrix was able to score in the 84th minute to tie the game. Goalkeepers Coker and Lauren Cullen paired to make five saves on the day, while Coker recorded the win.

University of Dallas
The Crusaders fell 4-0 to Hardin-Simmons University in the match-up Satuday. Goalkeeper Tori Fleharty recorded six saves on the day. UD was held to just one shot on the day, coming from Alice Nelson, while HSU was able to get 27 shots off.

Schreiner University
The Mountaineers fell in their first conference game of the season to Texas Lutheran Univeristy, 2-0. SU couldn't get a single shot off in the game, but held the Bulldogs to just three shots of their own. Megan Morant was in the goal for the Mountaineers but couldn't stop either of the two shots that she faced.

Southwestern University
The Pirates couldn't earn a win this weekend and fell to the University of Texas-Dallas Friday and University of Texas-Tyler Sunday. Against UTD, the Comets took control in the eighth minute and never let up, beating SU 5-0. Goalkeeper Kylie Hunt recorded six saves on the day as she faced eight shots on goal. Katherine Rodgers played the remaining 57 minutes, facing seven shots on goal and making four saves. Sunday, the Pirates fell to UTT 3-0. Katherine Rodgers recorded 11 saves in the game. The Pirates were only able to get 3 shots off, one on goal, compared to  23 shots for the Patriots.

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs earned their first conference win this season, beating Schreiner University 2-0. Meredith Jamail scored the first goal of the game off of an assist by Tara Armstrong in the 34th minute to give TLU a 1-0 lead going into halftime. Zeo Gulick recorded the team's second goal in the 61st minute. Sunday, the Bulldogs took on Huston-Tillotson, earning a 4-4 draw in double-overtime. A goal from Alexis Soto in the 36th minute sent the game into halftime with a 1-1 tie, but HTU came out strong in the second half, taking a 3-1 lead in the 59th minute. Sioned Kirkpatrick scored a goal in the 66th minute off of an assist from Marisol Ramos, but HTU put their lead at two with a goal in the 80th minute. Kirkpatrick marked her second goal of the day in the 81st minute, bringing the Bulldogs within one point, and Tara Armstrong scored off of a free kick in the 84th minute to tie the game at four. Neither team could connect in overtime. TLU Goalkeepers Devin Crump and Nichole Glazener paired up for six saves on the day.

Trinity University
Saturday night, the No. 2 Tigers defeated the University of Texas-Tyler 2-1. Trinity allowed a goal late in the first half to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead, but Emily Donnan scored an equalizer in the 38th minute. Senior All-Americans Kelsey Falcone and Emily Jorgens connected for the game-winner as Jorgens picked up her team leading fourth goal of the season. The Tigers took on the University of Texas-Dallas Sunday, beating the Comets 2-1. Kelsey Falcone scored the first goal of the game in the 50th minute off of an assist from Yasmeen Farra, but the Comets tied it up in the 68th minute. The game headed into an overtime period, but less than three minutes in, Meredith Licata scored what proved to be the game-winner off of an assist from Jorgens.
