Trinity's Olvera, Booher Named SCAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior midfielder Maggie Olvera and freshman midfielderHannah Booher of Trinity University were named Players of the Week for week nine of the SCAC women's soccer season.

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 20th – October 26th

MAGGIE OLVERA OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior midfielder from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 20th through Sunday, October 26th.

Olvera led Trinity to a pair of shutout victories over SCAC opponents this weekend, securing the No. 1 seed for the second-ranked Tigers.

Olvera finished with three goals and four assists over the two games, accounting for nearly half of the team's goals during the weekend sweep. She had a goal and three assists in the win over Austin, clinching the tournament's top seed on Friday. Against Dallas, Olvera scored two goals in the first half to lift the Tigers to victory.

For the season, Olvera is third on the team with nine goals and nine assists, scoring a total of 27 points and one game-winning goal. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman forward Erin Eckart of Austin College tallied the game winner with a strong header in the second half against the University of Dallas, her third score of the season. Eckart also had 10 shot attempts on the week in three matches. Sophomore defender Marissa Hughes of Centenary scored a goal and added an assist in the team's 2-2 tie against Schreiner. Freshman forward Ruth Blackburn of Schreiner scored a pair of goals in the Mountaineers only game of the week, resulting in a 2-2 draw against Centenary. Junior midfielder Taylor Vatuna of Texas Lutheran scored the game winning goal in overtime against Centenary, her first goal of the season. Dallas and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

HANNAH BOOHER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a freshman midfielder from Deer Park, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 20th through Sunday, October 26th.

Booher led Trinity to a pair of shutouts against SCAC opponents this weekend, defeating both Austin College and the University of Dallas to secure the top seed in the SCAC Tournament.

Booher and the Tiger defense allowed just three shots in the two games this weekend, recording the 11th and 12th shutouts of the season. Trinity has given up just 12 total shots in conference play. Booher also scored a goal in Friday's win over Austin. For the season, Booher has two goals and one assist in her 17 games played.

Booher and the Tiger defense have yielded just six goals on the year.
