TLU's Brown, Trinity's Simmons, Turner Named SCAC Football Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Junior quarterback Trenton White of Texas Lutheran University and junior running back Jeremy Simmons, junior defensive lineman Martel Matthews, and senior running back Desmond King of Trinity University have been named players of the peek for week 10 of the SCAC football season.

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, November 15th

JEREMY SIMMONS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 5-10, 206-pound junior running back from University Heights, Ohio, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November 15th.

Simmons led Trinity to its third win in the last four games with a second-straight 100-yard rushing performance in a 41-0 victory over Austin College on Saturday.

Simmons rushed 19 times for 161 yards and two touchdowns in just three quarters of action of the weekend's win that put Trinity into second place in the SCAC this season. He also scored a third touchdown via a long reception to account for three of the five scores for the Tigers. Simmons finished with 196 yards rushing and receiving, out-gaining Austin (164 yards) by himself.

Early in the second quarter, Simmons had a 33-yard catch-and-run to open the scoring. That touchdown would prove to be all Trinity would need, but it was far from all he would provide. In the third quarter, Trinity started with six consecutive running plays by Simmons, capped by a 27-yard run for a touchdown to make it 17-0. After a turnover on its next drive, the Tigers again leaned on Simmons for all 70 yards of its next drive, culminating with a 60-yard scamper that proved to be his last touch of the game.

For the season, Simmons now leads the team with 564 yards and four touchdowns on 88 carries, averaging 6.4 yards/rush. He rushed for 377 of those yards in the last two weeks, leading Trinity to a pair of wins. Simmons has also caught five passes for 68 yards and one touchdown.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior quarterback Trenton White of Texas Lutheran directed an offense that rushed 333 yards on 44 carries, averaging 7.6 yards per carry. White rushed eight times for a career-best 135 yards (averaging 16.9 yards per carry) and scored on runs of 75 (career-long) and 19. Austin College and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, November 15th

JULIAN TURNER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 6-1, 225-pound sophomore linebacker from Katy, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November 15th.

Turner led Trinity to a second-place finish in the SCAC with a 41-0 shutout victory over Austin College on Saturday afternoon.

Turner piled up 12 total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in the win, holding Austin to just 164 yards of total offense and 64 rushing yards. Turner also added a pair of quarterback hurries to tie for the team lead in that category.

For the season, Turner has now taken over the team lead with 104 total tackles, and is fourth among Tiger defenders in tackles for loss. His nine QBH this year are first among Trinity's linebackers.
