Women's Soccer Recap (Week 7) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The second half of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer season kicked off as teams who had played each other the previous weekend flipped sites and prepared for a rematch.

Texas Lutheran moved into a tie for second place in the conferene standings with 15 points after sweeping home matches against Austin College (1-0) on Friday and the University of Dallas (3-0) on Sunday. The 3-0 decision over Dallas avenged a 2-1 loss to the Crusaders last weekend.

Trinity 5, Our Lady of the Lake 0
The third-ranked Trinity University women’s soccer team registered its eighth straight shutout with a 5-0 victory over NAIA Our Lady of the Lake University on Monday night.

Trinity won its 11th straight game overall, and improved to 12-0-1 this season.

All-American Emily Jorgens opened the scoring in the 17th minute of play, on an assist from Yasmeen Farra. Jorgens is now tied for the team lead in goals with eight, and has a team-best five game-winners.

Shortly after, Maggie Olvera gave Trinity a 2-0 lead with the first of her two goals on the night, assited Jorgens. It marked the 13th assist of the campaign for Jorgens, who also leads the team with 29 total points this season. Olvera's second goal of the night - and sixth of the season - came just after halftime in the 54th minute, with Kimberly Polasek supplying the assist.

Allison Carter scored in the 74th minute, with Tierney Thomison and Jordan Leeper sharing assists honors. The final scoring play of the night occurred in the 81st minute, as Brigitte Taylor and Meredith Licata combined for the fifth Trinity goal.

Devan Osegueda was the starting goalkeeper, and she was relieved in the second half by Lauren Goldberg and Kalli Douma. The Tiger defense did not permit an OLLU shot or shot on goal. Trinity has nine total shutouts this season.

Texas Lutheran 1, Austin College 0
For the second time in a week, the Texas Lutheran women's soccer team defeated Austin College 1-0. On Friday, the Bulldogs completed the feat at home.

The Friday-afternoon hero was sophomore Maegan Idrogo. After more than 70 minutes of scoreless soccer, Idrogo put the Bulldogs ahead with her second goal of the season in the 72nd minute.

Idrogo put away the goal after a Sioned Kirkpatrick shot was saved, but not controlled, by the Austin College keeper. The whole play was set up by a long through-ball from Marisol Ramos. It was both Kirkpatrick's and Ramos' second assists of the season.

The win improved the Bulldogs' record to 5-7-1 overall and 4-3 in the SCAC. The loss dropped Austin College to 6-6 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

The second-half score was well earned for Texas Lutheran after turning the tables for a dominant second half. TLU was outshot 7-2 in the opening 45 minutes, but came out of halftime and outshot the 'Roos 10-2 the rest of the way.

Sophomore Erin Rose notched her fourth shutout of the season on Friday. She made three saves on the day while the 'Roos finished with nine total shots.

Dallas 1, Schreiner 0 - OT
The University of Dallas women's soccer team (7-5, 5-1 SCAC) prevailed 1-0 in an overtime victory at Schreiner University (3-7, 1-6 SCAC) on Friday night. It's the team's fourth win in a row, all versus conference opponents, and fifth in the last six matches.

Dallas sweeps the season series against the Mountaineers, taking both contests by a single goal. The navy and white were triumph a week ago in Irving, Texas, defeating Schreiner 2-1.

The Lady Crusaders were outshot by the home team, 6-5, in a low-scoring match that required extra regulation to dictate a victor. Sophomore midfielder Cascade Mayer delivered the heroic kick, giving her two on the campaign.

Junior midfielder Abigale Weisbrod was credited with the assist on a scoring sequence that ended an impressive contest at the 93:07 minute mark.

It was Mayer's lone shot of the game too, as a quartet of players for Dallas attempted shots in the victory. Junior forward Nicole Johnson, freshman defender Lauren Hood, senior defender Kaitlin Meske, and Weisbrod all participated in the shooting effort.

Freshman goalkeeper Elena Naccari had a good outing, picking up four saves and holding Schreiner to her second shutout of the season.

Trinity 9, Centenary 1
The third-ranked Trinity University women's soccer team secured a regular season series sweep by scoring a 9-1 victory over Centenary College on Friday night.

Trinity improved its record to 13-0-1 this season with the win, which also marked the team's best scoring output of the season. The Tigers also allowed a goal for the first time in seven conference games, though that score only served to ignite the offense.

After taking a 2-0 lead into the half, Trinity gave up its first goal since September 14, snapping a streak of eight consecutive shutouts. Following the goal by Centenary - which came on the home team's lone shot of the night - the Tigers erupted with seven more goals to close out the game.

A pair of Trinity players scored hat tricks with three goals each in the second half. Emily Jorgens nailed three straight scores to open the Tiger scoring in the final period, then Abby Tisdale netted three straight scores of her own in a span of just over eight minutes of game time.

This marks the fifth time since 2011 that Trinity has had two players score hat tricks in the same game. The last came when Shelby Guenthardt and Kelsey Falcone did it in 2012 against Southwestern. The hat tricks are the first this season for Trinity, which saw four players score three or more goals last year.

Jorgens has now scored a hat trick in three consecutive seasons, and now has 50 career goals for the Tigers. She is just the fifth player in school history to reach that milestone, and is now nine goals from breaking the all-time record of 58 set by Abby Loar (2008-11). If she does break the record, Jorgens would be Trinity's career leader in goals, assists, and points.

Julia Kelly opened the game's scoring in the 29th minute of play, followed by Robin Lipinski's eventual game-winner just over 10 minutes later. Kelly also assisted on the second goal, as well as on the first of Tisdale's three goals. Yasmeen Farra assisted on the game's first score.

Hannah Hommel finished off the scoring with just 31 seconds remaining, assisted by Brigitte Taylor. Taylor also assisted on one of the goals scored by Jorgens. Kirby Peddicord also added an assist for Trinity, helping Jorgens finish off her hat trick. Jorgens also assisted Tisdale on her third goal, which came in the 80th minute.

Texas Lutheran 3, Dallas 0
Zoe Gulick scored the game-winning goal and added an assist later on, helping the Texas Lutheran offense to a big day in the Bulldogs' 3-0 home win over the University of Dallas on Sunday.

It was a welcomed offensive explosion for the Bulldogs, as Sunday marked the first time in eight games they've scored more than one goal. It was also just the second time this year they scored more than twice in a game.

The impressive win moved the Bulldogs' record to 6-7-1 overall and 5-3 in the SCAC.

The offense didn't take long to get going on Sunday. Gulick scored the game's first goal in the 15th minute. The score game off a corner kick from Sioned Kirkpatrick, who lifted the ball into the box where it knocked off several players before Gulick knocked it in.

The Bulldogs would play the rest of the half out without allowing a goal, taking the 1-0 lead into the halftime locker room.

They came out of that locker room and almost immediately doubled their advantage. Once again, the combination of Gulick and Kirkpatrick combined for a score, only this time the roles were reversed. It was Gulick who set up Kirkpatrick with a long pass. Kirkpatrick was able to finish the breakaway chance in the 48th minute.

The Bulldogs put the game away in the 74th minute when Kelly Lochte scored her second goal of the season. The goal came off a pass from Claudia Trevenio.

While the final two TLU goals were scored in the second half, it was the first-half dominance that provided the foundation for the win. The Bulldogs outshot Dallas 16-0 in the first half, finishing with a 22-5 shot advantage for the game.

Erin Rose and Devin Crump combined for the shutout. Rose was not forced into any save chances, while Crump made two saves in her 34 minutes of play.

Southwestern 1, Centenary 0
Mackenzie Millican's goal in the 23rd minute was the only score of the day as Southwestern won 1-0 over Centenary College on Sunday afternoon.

It was balanced early in the game, but it didn't take long for the Pirates to take control of the contest as Millican punched home Carol Bentley's pass to put the Pirates up 1-0.

Southwestern controlled the rest of the half, winning the shot count 9-3 in the half, but weren't able to pad their lead any before halftime.

The Pirates continued their strong play in the second half but couldn't put the second goal away as the time ticked down.

Southwestern closed out the match for the 1-0 win, but the Pirates controlled the shot count 16-7. Katherine Rodgers posted the shutout with three saves on the afternoon while her counterpart, Erica Coker, had two saves.

The Pirates improve to 5-8-1 on the year and 5-2 in the SCAC while Centenary falls to 1-13 overall and 0-8 in the SCAC.

Austin College 1, Schreiner 0
The Austin College women's soccer team got a goal from Mandi Sherwood in the 15th minute of action and that would be all they'd need, holding off Schreiner 1-0 to pick up their seventh win of the year. The 'Roos are 7-6 overall and 3-4 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The winning goal came in the 15th minute of action when Myranda Baumgartner found Sherwood for the tally, and Austin College was able to clamp down defensively and hold the Mountaineers scoreless the rest of the way.

The 'Roos held an 8-5 shot advantage in the game, with Franchesca Lozoya earning the shutout by making four saves in goal. Schreiner's Megan Morant had five saves while giving up the lone goal.

The win put Austin College solidly in fifth place (3-4 in SCAC play for nine points) while Schreiner dropped to 1-7 in league play.
