Women's Golf Recap (Week 4) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. –All five of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's golf teams competed this week at the West Region Invitational hosted by Southwestern University.

Trinity University took third place to lead all SCAC schools in the event, finishing behind top-ranked University of Texas-Tyler and No. 12 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Schreiner University took sixth place, Southwestern University finished in seventh, Texas Lutheran University finished eighth and Centenary took ninth.

Centenary College
The Ladies took ninth place in the West Region Invitational, while two team members finished in the top three of all SCAC players competing. CC posted a two round score of 729, improving by 27 shots on the second day of competition. Taylor Thompson tied for ninth place in the event, posting a score of 163 (84-79), while Jamie Wright tied for 12th, just one shot behind Thompson with a 164 (85-79). Gabrielle Ford took 34th in the tournament, shooting a 177 (90-87), while Haley Nidey and Toni Collaro rounded out the team in 43rd and 44th.

Schreiner University
The Mountaineers shot a 684 through the tournament, finishing just one shot out of fourth place and five shots out of third. Melanie Dean led Schreiner in a tie for 12th place after shooting a 164 (84-80). Kaycee Bankert finished the competition in a tie for 24th place, firing off 171 (89-82). Maddie Scheidler and Jaimie Hughes rounded out the scorers in a tie for 32nd place, each posting a two-round score of 175. Marissa Fallis rounded out the team in 38th place, shooting a 182 (95-87).

Southwestern University
The Pirates hosted the West Region Invite this week, earning a seventh place finish in the event. Bernice Leonard closed the tournament on a high note with a final round 76 to end in second place overall. This mark tied for the lowest individual round of the competition. Leonard closed the tournament with 156 strokes, trailing WRI Champion Jordan Sloane of UT Tyler by just one stroke. As a team, the Pirates ended seventh overall. Lauren Boone finished tied for 12th with a 164 (83-81) and Keeley Coburn tied for 27th with 172 strokes (85-87). Jenny Smith rounded out Southwestern with a 42nd place finish with 200 strokes (101-99). 

Texas Lutheran University
The Texas Lutheran women's golf team improved upon their opening round by four strokes on Tuesday, finishing the West Region Invitational in eighth place. The Bulldogs carded a team score of 361in Tuesday's final round. They finished the two rounds with a total score of 726 (+150). The Bulldogs were led by Autumn Durst. The senior finished tied for 29th after carding a 14-over par 86 on Tuesday. She finished with a combined score of 173. Gabby Rangel also improved by one stroke in the second round, carding an 18-over 90. She finished in 37th with a combined score of 181. Alessa Gonzales wasn't far behind, finishing 39th with a score of 184. She improved her second round by two strokes, carding a 19-over 91 on Tuesday. Amanda Cloessner rounded things up for TLU, finishing 41st with a combined score of 188.  

Trinity University
The No. 16 Trinity Tigers posted a two-round score of 679 at the West Region Invitational to take third place in the event. Hanna Niner carded 7-over-par 79 in the final round, recording Trinity's best score of the tournament. Niner improved her score by seven strokes and wrapped up at 165 for a 16th-place finish. Alessa Hutter played as an individual and also tied for 16th, with a final-round 83. Brigette Lee tied for 22nd place with a 170 total. Madeline Moran and Taylor Moser tied for the No. 29 position with 173s. Shelby Devore stood alone at No. 36 with a 180 two-round total.
