Men's Soccer Recap (Week 10) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer teams wrapped up the regular season this week with the final conference matches and two non-conference games.

 

Non-Conference Games

UC Santa Cruz 2, Southwestern 0
The Southwestern Pirates finished the regular season Saturday with a match against the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, but fell 2-0. UCSC held a 26-8 shot advantage, putting 13 shots on target. Southwestern goalie Ryan Benner recorded 11 saves on the day. Andres Carreno-Mendez and Christian Lopez led the Pirates with two shots apiece, but neither could find the back of the net.

Trinity 2, UC Santa Cruz 0
The Trinity Tigers extended their winning streak to 16 games with a win over UC Santa Cruz Sunday. Victor Araujo scored the first goal for the Tigers, and the eventual game-winner, in the 76th minute. This is his eighth goal of the season, which ranks fourth among the SCAC. Kellen Reid marked a goal with less than a minute left in the game off of an assist by Johnny Lawson. The Banana Slugs were only able to get eight shots off, three on target. Goalkeeper Matt Cardone marked three saves.

 

Conference Games

Texas Lutheran 1, Schreiner 0
The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs earned a win over Schreiner Friday afternoon to clinch the fifth seed in the SCAC tournament. The teams remained close, with TLU holding just a 13-12 shot advantage and a 7-6 shot on goal advantage. TLU goalkeeper Jonathan Michael made six saves to keep the Mountaineers out of the net, marking a shutout. Schreiner keeper, Blake Lawson also made six saves, but TLU’s Gabe Sanchez was able to score off of a corner kick, assisted by Colin Nunley.

Trinity 4, Southwestern 0
The Trinity Tigers finished SCAC play with a perfect 14-0 record after defeating Southwestern 4-0 in the conference finale. Simon Uribe scored the eventual game-winner in the 20th minute, the only goal of the first half. Zac Treu, Johnny Lawson and Tom Carwile all added goals in the second half. The Tigers held a 30-8 shot advantage, putting 14 shots on target. Southwestern goalkeeper Travis Carmichael marked ten saves on the day, while Matt Cardone helped Trinity to the 11th shutout of the season, putting up four saves.

Dallas 1, Austin College 1 (2OT)
The Dallas Crusaders and the Austin College ‘Roos battled it out Saturday, but neither team could put in a game-winner. The ‘Roos took an early lead as Roberto Varela marked the first goal of the game in the 25th minute. In the 33rd minute, however, Matthew Wise converted a penalty kick into a score for the Crusaders to even things out. Despite holding a 24-18 shooting advantage, AC goalkeeper Andrew Celio marked six saves that kept UD out of the net.

Colorado College 2, Centenary 1
The Colorado College Tigers finished the regular season with their 10th win in conference play over the Centenary College Gents Saturday evening. Connor Rademacher marked his first goal of the season off of an assist by Caden MacKenzie in the 42nd minute. Stuart Beezley put in his sixth goal of the season in the 54th minute to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Jeremy Klespis gave Centenary the team’s lone goal in the 69th minute to prevent the shutout. The Tigers held a 13-4 shot advantage over the Gents, putting seven of their shots on target. Centenary goalkeeper Rylan Whan marked five saves on the day, while Theo Hooker of CC put up three.
