LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference names Jimmy Keener of Schreiner University and Brigette Lee of Trinity University the Golfers of the Week for tournaments played through Tuesday, October 14.
MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
JIMMY KEENER
OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a senior from San Antonio,
Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Golfer of the Week for
tournaments played through Tuesday, October 14.
Keener led the defending national champion
Mountaineers to a seventh place team finish at the prestigious
Golfweek Division III Fall Preview, which was contested over three
days on the Raven Golf Club course in Sandestin, Fla.
Keener fired rounds of 76-71-69 for a three-day total of
216 which was tied for fifth among all individuals and just seven
shots off the leaders. His final round 69 was the second-lowest
round shot on Tuesday, only trailing his teammate and fellow senior
Cheyne Kendall, who fired a final round 65, the lowest single day
score of the tournament.
The event was the final one of the fall season for Schreiner, who
does not tee it up again until February 16 at the Linda Lowery
Invitational at the Falconhead Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
BRIGETTE LEE OF TRINITY
UNIVERSITY, a junior from Shavano Park, Texas, has
been named the SCAC Women’s Golfer of the Week for
tournaments played through Tuesday, October 14.
Lee led the Trinity women’s golf team to an
eighth-place finish of 18 teams competing at the prestigious
Golfweek DIII Fall Preview at the Baytowne Golf Club.
Lee was consistent throughout the three-day event,
firing rounds of 77-78-78 for a 233, and placing her in a tie for
14th among the 86 competitors.
Trinity completed the tournament with a 970 total at the par-72
course to finish in a tie for seventh. The Tigers finished ahead of
Centre College (976), Illinois Wesleyan University (980), Methodist
University (981), Southwestern University (986), Schreiner
University (989), Berry College (1,012), Rhodes College
“B” team (1,019). Oglethorpe University (1,033), and
Birmingham-Southern College (1,099).
Other outstanding
performances in the SCAC:
Junior Keeley Coburn
of Southwestern finished in a tie for 31st with rounds of
76-86-81 for a 243. She paced the Pirates to an 11th place team
finish. Senior Melanie
Dean of Schreiner also finished tied for 31st with a 243 as
she fired rounds of 81-80-82. The Mountaineers finished three shots
behind Southwestern and in 12th place.
