Trinity Men's Soccer Falls to Wheaton in NCAA Quarterfinals

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The No. 2 Trinity University Tigers ended their season Saturday, falling to Wheaton College 2-1 in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Quarterfinals.

The Tigers got out to an early 1-0 lead after senior Johnny Lawson marked the first goal of the game in the third minute. The Thunder responded in the 37th minute as Stephen Golz scored off of a header.

Wheaton held an 18-13 shot advantage, however both teams marked nine shots on target. Trinity Goalkeeper Matt Cardone put up seven saves, his second-most total, behind his career-high 10 saves against Colorado College in a 1-0 shutout of the SCAC foe.

After scoring the first goal, Lawson marked two more shots, both on target, to lead the team with three total. Seniors Simon Uribe and Victor Araujo and sophomore Zacharias Edholm each put up two shots in the match.

The Tigers end their season with a record of 24-2-0 after finishing SCAC play with a perfect 14-0 mark. Wheaton ended Trinity's current 21 game winning streak, beginning September 10.
