TLU's Sanchez, Michael; Trinity's Uribe Named SCAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference names Jonathan Michael of Texas Lutheran University and Simon Uribe of Trinity University the men's soccer Co-Defensive Players of the week and Gabe Sanchez of Texas Lutheran the Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, November 2.

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 27th – November 2nd

GABE SANCHEZ OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior midfielder from Round Rock, Texas, has been selected as the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 27th through Sunday, November 2nd. 

Sanchez's goal was the first of his career, and came in a grand fashion, proving to be the lone goal of the game, earning the Bulldogs their sixth win in the SCAC.

Sanchez has played in ten matches during the regular season, starting in just one. Sanchez is now one of just seven Bulldogs who have scores, and one of four members of the team with at least one game-winning goal.

The Bulldogs earned the fifth seed in the SCAC Championship Tournament and will face Dallas in Friday's first quarterfinal match.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC
Senior midfielder Victor Araujo of Trinity marked one goal and one assist this weekend to help the Tigers to two shutouts over Southwestern University and UC Santa Cruz. Araujo leads the SCAC in assists (10) and ranks second in points (26). Austin College, Centenary, Colorado College, Dallas, Schreiner, and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 27th – November 2nd

JONATHAN MICHAEL OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior goalkeeper from Coppell, Texas, and SIMON URIBE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior midfielder from Cali, Colombia, have been selected as the SCAC Men's Soccer Co-Defensive Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 27th through Sunday, November 2nd. 

Michael marked his eighth shutout this weekend, which ties Theo Hooker of Colorado College for the lead in the SCAC.

Michael's six saves are the most in any of TLU's shutouts this season and is his third most in any game this season. He now has 62 saves for the season, which ranks fourth among all SCAC goalkeepers, while allowing just 15 goals for a save percentage of .805 –also fourth in the conference.

Uribe led the Tigers' defense which allowed just seven shots on goal between the two matches.

Uribe also scored the game-winning goal in the conference finale against Southwestern University Friday night, drilling a solo shot in the 20th minute.

Uribe has played and started in 19 games this season, helping the Tigers to a win in all but one of those matches. The Trinity defense has now posted 12 shutouts.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC
Senior goalkeeper Andrew Celio of Austin College helped the 'Roos finish the season with a 1-1 draw against the University of Dallas. In the game, Celio marked six saves. CentenaryColorado CollegeDallasSchreiner, and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.
