KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America released the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Men's Soccer Division III All-America Teams Friday, selecting two members of the Trinity University team to earn the honors. Full Results
Matt Cardone, a senior goalkeeper from San Antonio, Texas, was named to First Team for the second time in his career, the other coming during the 2012 season. Cardone was named to first team All-West Region earlier in the week, his third time to be selected to that list. Cardone registered 79 saves in his final season, allowing just 14 goals over 25 games for a goals-against average of 0.63. Cardone was also credited with eight shutout victories for the Tigers.
Tom Carwile, a junior defender from Tulsa, Okla., was selected to Second-Team after leading the Tigers' defense to 24 wins and an appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals this season. Carwile and the defense earned 13 shutout victories on the season, while he also assisted the offense with six goals and two assists. Two of his goals were game-winners.
Carwile was also named the SCAC Tournament Defensive MVP after helping Trinity to a 2-1 win over Colorado College in the championship match.
Cardone, Carwile and the Trinity Tigers finished the season 24-2-0 after finishing conference-play with a perfect 14-0 record. The team's only losses on the season were to the University of Texas-Dallas in early September and to Wheaton College in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament.
