Men's Track & Field Recap (Week 6) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – All five of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s track & field teams competed this week.

Colorado College hosted the annual CC Track & Field Invitational, while the University of Dallas and Southwestern University traveled to Abilene for the Hardin-Simmons Invitational.

Texas Lutheran University took on Division I competition at the UTSA Invitational and Trinity hit the west coast for the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.

Colorado College
The Tigers scored points across the board in a home meet that included the competition of Division II UCCS and Regis University, among others. Ethan Holland and Tucker Hampson started CC off on the right foot, finishing the 400-meter race in 52.15 (fifth) and 52.71 (sixth) seconds, respectively. Ryan Bing led the Tigers in the 800 after racing the 4 X 100 and 400-meter dash, finishing just off his PR time in 2:00.57 to place fourth overall. In the 1600 meters, Graham Frank turned in a personal-best time of 4:37.30, good for fifth place overall. Conor Terhune competed in his first ever 400-meter hurdles race, clocking in at an impressive 1:05.36, placing him sixth among other SCAC 400-meter hurdlers. Meanwhile, Justin Nguyen once again led the way for CC's sprinters and jumpers. Nguyen finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in a personal record 23.73 seconds. He also pushed his season-best long jump to a distance of 5.48 meters.

University of Dallas
The Crusaders traveled to Abilene, Texas to compete in the Hardin-Simmons Invitational this weekend. Dallas placed eighth in the field of ten teams. Jack Grubner got Dallas the first points of the day as he finished third in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:02.62. Cameron Mitchell earned the remaining points for UD, taking fifth place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.69 meters. This mark ranks sixth among all SCAC competitors.

Southwestern University
The Pirate took sixth at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational this weekend. Paden Williams took fourth in the 800 meter run to get points on the board for SU, marking a time of 2:03.31, ninth-best in the SCAC. Abraham Devenport added a point with his sixth place finish in the 3000 meter run, 10:28.28. Alex Medrano took second in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:55.02, fifth among the SCAC, before joining Ryan Huiszoon, Williams and Alex Riggs in the 4x400 meter relay to take eighth place with a time of 3:44.10. In the field events, Cody Taylor took the top spot in the pole vault with a mark of 4.00 meters, Will Devine finished ninth in the shot put (12.48 meters) and Tyler Adams took seventh in both the discus throw (37.28 meters) and the Hammer throw (35.42 meters). Adams’ mark of 35.42 meters in the hammer throw is now the best mark in the SCAC. Jeremy Snyder earned the final point for the Pirates, posting a sixth place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 37.71 meters.

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs traveled across town to the University of Texas at San Antonio to compete in the UTSA Invitiational against NCAA Division I competition. To get things started, Matthew Villarreal finished second in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:48.51. The quartet of Bryce Johnson, Marquis Brown, Zach Velasquez and Jonathon Hilman finished second in the 4x100 relay with a time of 43.23 seconds. Brown finished third in the 400, turning in a time of 49.07, ranking him 10th in all of Division III. Brown ran the 200 in 21.72 seconds for fifth place in the meet, ranking him sixth in Division III. The team of Chris Frank, Velasquez, Hilman and Brown finished third in the 4x400 relay. The quartet turned in a time of 3:33.04. Corbin Grobe finished third in the javelin with a toss of 37.03 meters. Chantz Singletary finished second in the long jump with a distance of 6.87 meters, ranking him 12th in Division III.

Trinity University
The Tigers competed in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational this weekend, competing against athletes from all NCAA Divisions at Pomona College. Also in the field were accomplished unattached runners, including international competitors. Louie Montoto continued to shine in the men’s high jump, placing fifth with a mark of 1.95 meters. Matt Love finished 10th in the discus, at 45.50 meters. Michael Erikson was 18th in the 1,500 meters (4:02.39), and Ian Plantz finished No. 22 in the 800, at 1:57.03. Cody Wolfe paced a contingent of four Trinity runners who completed the 200 meters in under 23 seconds. Wolfe placed 24th (22.42 seconds), and Eric Soo was 26th, at 22.53 seconds. Adam Saunders came in at No. 32, and Mike McIntosh was 38th.
