LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Austin College women's soccer team won both games on the weekend, opening up the season with a record of 2-0, and winning their season opener for the first time since 2010.

Schreiner recorded a 2-1 win at home against Howard Payne on Friday, marking the first season-opening win since 2007 for the Mountaineers.

No. 2 Trinity opened up its season with a dominating 7-1 win over the College of St. Scholastica on Friday.

Austin College
The 'Roos opened up the 2014 season with a win over non-conference opponents Howard Payne University and East Texas Baptist University, winning both matches. Against HPU, the 'Roos only managed to put up four shots, but made one count as Tyler Marquez found Mandi Sherwood at the 88:59 mark to take the 1-0 lead and ultimately win the match-up. The 'Roos followed the dramatic win with a 2-0 defeat of ETBU Sunday. Sherwood picked up another goal in the game, scoring her second goal of the season in the second half, while teammate Myranda Baumgartner added an insurance goal in the 88th minute to solidify the win.

Centenary
The Ladies fell on the road in their first two matches of the season to LeTourneau University and East Texas Baptist University. Against LeTourneau, freshman Riley Spudic started her career with three shots, two on target. The team totaled eight shots on the day, five coming on goal. Goalkeeper Lauren Cullen recorded 12 saves in the match, just one shy of her career-high set Oct. 13, 2013 against Southwestern University. Madison Alexander was able to send in just two shots against ETBU's strong defense Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Ladies fell 6-1 in the game. The Ladies' only score came off an own-goal by the Tigers.

Dallas
The Crusaders split the weekend, falling in their season opener in a double-overtime battle with Concordia University, but picking up a win over Southwestern College (Kan.). Cascade Mayer recorded the first goal for the Crusaders in the 19th minute against Concordia, but despite getting down 2-1 in the 73rd minute, Nicole Johnson tied the match at two apiece in the 84th minute to send the game into overtime. Freshman Tori Fleharty recorded the loss, but made 14 saves in her career debut. On the following day, the Crusaders were able to pick up their first win of the season, beating Southwestern 1-0. Freshman Sydney Stirling deposited a header in the 54th minute that proved to be the game-winner. Fleharty added another four saves on the day.

Schreiner
The freshman took over for the Mountaineers this weekend, recording three of the four total goals and assists in both matches. The team opened the season at home with a 2-1 win against Howard Payne. HPU struck in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead until freshman Allyson Fowler and junior Kelsie Nesbitt each knocked in a goal in the final period. Freshman Beth Ann Davis recorded the assist on both goals. The Mountaineers hit the road two days later to take on Huston-Tillotson, but fell 3-2 in overtime. Freshman Ruth Blackburn scored her first collegiate goal and assisted on the teams other goal, made by fellow freshman Ashley Foster.

Southwestern
The Pirates went west to compete against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Occidental college, but fell in both match-ups. The team took on CMS Friday, falling 2-0. Southwestern was held without any shots for the game, but did record 10 saves on the day, five apiece for freshman Kylie Hunt and senior Katherine Rodgers. The Pirates closed up the California trip with a 2-0 loss to Occidental. Rodgers recorded another five saves in the game, but it wasn't enough to stop to Occidental offense under control.

Texas Lutheran
The Bulldogs dropped two games in their opening weekend, falling 1-0 to both Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday and Concordia on Monday. Despite holding strong against UMHB for the first 70 minutes of play, a goal off of a corner-kick proved to be the game-winner. Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Rose recorded 11 saves on the day, the second-most in her career so far. The Bulldogs only recorded one shot on goal, coming from Sioned Kirkpatrick in the 38th minute. In a similar fashion, the Bulldogs held strong for the majority of the game against Concordia, but a goal in the 79th minute gave the Tornadoes the win.

Trinity
The second-ranked Tigers began the 2014 campaign with a 7-1 win over the College of St. Scholastica on Friday. The Tigers recorded four goals in the first half, two from All-American Emily Jorgens and one apiece for Kelsey Falcone and Colleen Markey – both assisted by Jorgens. All of the second half action came from Tiger newcomers. Hannah Booher marked the first goal in the second half, assisted by Tierney Thompson and Abby Tisdale. Tisdale picked up one of her own in the 65th minute. The Tiger's last point came off of a goal by Ruby Tedeschi with an assist by Meredith Licata.
