Trinity Women Opens Season Ranked Second by NSCAA

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Trinity University women's soccer team will open the 2014 season ranked No. 2 in the country as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced their preseason poll on Friday afternoon.

Trinity advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship game, played in December at San Antonio’s Toyota Field, in 2013. The Tigers completed the year with a 25-1-2 record and set a school mark for victories in a season.

The Tigers competed in their fifth straight NCAA Tournament, and the ninth in the past 10 years. Trinity also won an eighth Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship under Head Coach Lance Key’s leadership.

Coach Key was elected the SCAC Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his 10-year tenure by his peers and also earned Coach of the Year honors from CaptainU.

Two players - Emily Jorgens and Kelsey Falcone - were elected All-Americans by the NSCAA a year ago and will both return as seniors in 2014. Jorgens also was named the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year, and received the NCAA Elite 89 Award for the highest grade point average at the semifinals and final.

Trinity opens the campaign at home, taking on St. Scholastica on August 29 at the Paul McGinlay Soccer Field.
