STERLING, Va. - Millsaps College sophomore Will Hawkins and senior teammate Hunter Owen were named to the 2009 D3baseball.com All-America teams. Hawkins, the SCAC Player-of-the-Year, was an honorable mention selection while Owen was named to the third-team as an outfielder.
Owen batted .387 with 13 home runs, 52 RBI, 16 doubles and scored 56 runs scored. His 41 career homeruns rank second in SCAC history. Owen's 186 career RBI rank second in SCAC history and were only six behind Matt Gelotti's conference record of 192. He also finished tied for sixth with 55 career doubles.
Owen led the league in home runs, runs scored, walks (43) and slugging percentage (.755). He also finished in the top five in the league in four other categories including: on base percentage (.531 - 2nd), RBI (52 - 2nd), doubles (16 - 4th) and total bases (117 - 2nd).
Hawkins hit .406 with 11 home runs with 55 RBI, 17 doubles, two triples and 47 runs scored. He led the league with 73 hits. Hawkins also led the league in RBI (55), total bases (127) and at-bats (180).
