TUNICA, Miss. - The Oglethorpe University
men fired a tournament-record score of 7 under par 281 on
Monday to win the Rhodes College Fall Collegiate Golf Classic at
Tunica National Golf Resort - the site of the 2009 SCAC Golf
Championships.
Jeff Rein of Texas Lutheran University won medalist honors with a
score of 140, just one shot better than Rhodes' Bill Bazzel.
As for other SCAC schools at the event, Rhodes College finished
fifth, Centre College finished eighth, Southwestern University
finished 10th, DePauw University finished 13th, Sewanee-University
of the South finished 16th, Millsaps College was 17th and
Hendrix College was 18th.
After trailing by four strokes heading into Monday's final
round, Oglethorpe combined to post a 7-under 281 to claim the
victory over Huntingdon College by three strokes.
Playing with the first team, sophomore Olafur Loftsson shot
73-69 two-under par and finished in a tie for third place. Loftsson
was joined at two-under par by freshman Craig Stevenson who
posted rounds of 70-72 while playing for the second team.
The Petrels also had three golfers record a tie for seventh place
finish with a two-day total of 145 including first teamers Scott
Pugh and Matt Rebitch and second team member Hap Kaufold.
Rounding out the scoring for the first team was freshman Matt
Bernstein who carded rounds of 77-71 to score a top-20 finish.
