NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The 13th-ranked DePauw University Tigers defeated 14th-ranked Trinity University, 6-3, and captured their third straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title. With the win, DePauw improved to 21-3 on the season and earned the conference's automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Championship.
DePauw took a 2-1 lead with wins at second and third doubles and
then won the match with singles victories at the number two through
five slots. Four Tigers were named to the all-tournament team in
singles play including Scott Sandager, Hunter Schouweiler, Bryan
Heck, and Michael Rardon. Heck and Sandager were repeat selections
on the all-tournament team from a year ago.
Trinity placed Max Frey (#1 singles) and Crisanto Ramirez (#6
singles) on the All-Tournament team. Ramirez earned a third
consecutive appearance on the all-tournament team. Also repeating
on this year’s all-tournament team was Sewanee’s
Charlie Boyd.
Millsaps (Russell Anderson/David Bastian & Alex
Cummings/Campbell Hughes) as well as DePauw (Rardon/Schouweiler
& Will Gates/Scott Swanson) placed two doubles teams on the
all-tournament team.
