SUWANEE, Ga. - The SCAC will be well represented at the NCAA Division III National Swimming and Diving Championship Meet which begins March 18th on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Macalester College is serving has host of this year’s championship meet.
On the men’s side, DePauw University - the 2009 SCAC
Champions - will be led by All-American John Cook. Cook, just a
junior, will be swimming in three individual events including the
50, 100 and 200-yard freestyle. Joining Cook in the 200-yard free
will be teammate John Montgomery. Other individuals competing for
the Indiana Tigers include Josh Baugh, who will swim the 200-yard
IM and the 100-yard breaststroke, Steve Klabak, who will swim the
50 and 100-yard freestyle events and Charlie Boehme, who will swim
the 400-yard individual medley. DePauw will also compete in the 200
and 400-yard medley relays as well as the 200, 400 and 800-yard
freestyle relays.
A pair of freshmen swimmers, Alex Miranda and Andrew Battles from
Trinity University, will also represent the SCAC at nationals.
Miranda will be competing in the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard
individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly. Battles will swim in
the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,650-yard freestyle.
For the women, Centre College, DePauw, Southwestern University and
Trinity will all have individuals represented at the 2009 Swimming
and Diving National Championships.
Centre will compete in four relay events including the 200 and
400-yard freestyle as well as the 200 and 400-yard medley relays.
Individually, the Colonels will be represented by SCAC Swimmer of
the Meet Meredith Angel, who will compete in the 50 and 100-yard
free events in addition to the 100-yard breaststroke. Joining Angel
in the 50 and 100-yard free will be teammate Colleen Maggard, who
will also compete in the 100-yard backstroke. Senior Lis Starr has
three individual events of her own to compete, including the 100
and 200-yard butterfly as well as the 200-yard individual
medley.
DePauw has a trio of swimmers that qualified for a number of
different individual events. Callie Boehme will swim in three
different events, the 500-yard free, 400-yard individual medley and
the 1,650-yard freestyle. Senior Amanda Stier will join Starr of
Centre in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly as well as the 200-yard
individual medley. Freshman Catie Baker, who is coming off shoulder
surgery earlier in the year, will swim the 200-yard individual
medley in addition to the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke.
Southwestern will be represented by Jessie Carrier who will swim
the 50 and 200-yard freestyle.
Trinity does not have any female swimmers, but does have two divers
that will represent the school and the conference at the national
meet. Lindsay Martin and Hayley Emerick will both compete in the
3-meter spring board event. Martin will also participate in the
1-meter spring board competition.
