SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Rhodes College women lead
Trinity University by four points and the Centre College men hold
an 11-point margin over Trinity after Day One of the 2009 SCAC
Track & Field Championships on the campus of The University of

Five SCAC championship meet records were broken on the
day.
Trinity University's senior Elizabeth Eder shattered the women's
10,000 meter run mark by 1:40, finishing in a new SCAC championship
meet record time of 37:04.23. Her teammate senior Emily Loeffler
broke the 3,000-meter steeplechase mark by almost 15 seconds,
finishing in a time of 10:44.91.
Junior Kim Tryon of Rhodes College set a new SCAC championship mark
in the women's pole valut. Her winning vault was 11' 4 1/2" - over
four inches beyond the former mark which had stood since 2005.
In just the second year that the hammer throw has been an official
SCAC event, Centre College's freshman Emily Niehaus set a new
women's conference championship meet standard with a throw of 164'
1". On the men's side, sophomore Andrew Maryott of Rhodes College
tossed the hammer 153' 8" to break the mark he set in the inaugural
event last year.
