INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - For the first time since
2006, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference placed two teams
in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship field of 54 teams.
Hendrix College, which won the league's automatic bid, is the sixth
seed in the West Regional. Millsaps College, which was ranked #1
earlier in the season, earned an at large bid and is the second
seed in the Central Regional.
Hendrix (22-21) won the SCAC Tournament on April 26. The win was
the first SCAC men's championship in any sport in school history.
The Warriors will travel out to McMinnville, Ore. and Linfield
College for the West Regional. Hendrix is one of six teams in the
West Regional. Also in that regional are first seed Pomona-Pitzer
(35-5), second seed Texas-Tyler (38-10), third seed Cal Lutheran
(31-9), fourth seed George Fox (33-9) and fifth seed Chapman
(26-14).
Hendrix opens up NCAA play on Wednesday, May 13 when it takes on top seed Pomona-Pitzer at Noon (Pacific). Millsaps opens up regional play on Wednesday, May 13 when the Majors take on Wartburg at 3:30 p.m. (Central).
The Warriors played four of the five teams in its regional back
in March. Hendrix lost to Texas-Tyler 9-5 & 9-4, lost to
Chapman 10-8, lost to Cal Lutheran 4-3, and lost to Pomona-Pitzer
9-4.
Millsaps (32-8) earned its first trip to the NCAA regionals since
2006 and the program's sixth overall apperance (1995, 1996, 2003,
2005, 2006, 2009). The Majors are joined in the Central Regional by
first seed Carthage (32-6), third seed Wisconsin-Whitewater
(26-17), fourth seed Washington (Mo.) (25-10), fifth seed Wartburg
(27-18) and sixth seed Fontbonne (25-17). The Majors are 0-1
all-time against Carthage, 0-0 against Wisconsin-Whitewater, 7-16
against Washington (Mo.), 0-1 against Wartburg and 0-0 against
Fontbonne.
The SCAC previously placed two teams in the NCAA regionals in
1996, 2001, 2002, and 2006.
