DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre College has added men's
and women's lacrosse to its roster of intercollegiate athletics,
bringing the total number of athletic offerings to 23. Competitive
play will begin in the fall of 2010.
Centre will join only one other Kentucky college offering
intercollegiate lacrosse, and will be the only Kentucky college
participating in the sport in Division III.
"Adding men's and women's lacrosse at Centre College once again
shows that we are leaders in the state and region when it comes to
NCAA Division III athletics," says Brian Chafin, Centre's athletic
director. "This will open up more national recruiting opportunities
and allow students who want to play Lacrosse to attend a top
liberal arts institution while continuing to pursue their athletic
interest."
The installation of field lights in 2008 and the installation of an
all-purpose surface this summer at Farris Stadium has provided
Centre with a suitable location for these teams to conduct practice
and play their contests.
