LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Austin College snapped a 14 game losing streak with a 25-17 win at Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Saturday night. It marked the Kangaroos' first win since Oct. 24, 2010 when Austin College beat Rhodes, 17-16.

Austin College picked up its first victory of
2012 in dramatic fashion on Saturday, scoring nine points in the
final 3:32 to get a 25-17 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God
University in Waxahachie. The win was Austin College’s first
since a 17-16 win over Rhodes on Oct. 24, 2010 and snapped a 14
game losing streak. The ‘Roos jumped out to a 10-0 lead after
an Andrew Klink field goal and a 20 yard touchdown run by Sean
Sweeney and took a 13-10 lead into halftime. After increasing the
lead to 16-10 on another field goal by Klink in the third quarter,
the ‘Roos fell behind 17-16 on a SAGU touchdown pass with
3:06 left in the third. That remained the score until Nathan
Packard recovered a fumble late in the fourth, and three plays
later Noah Jesko found PJ Fuller for a 29 yard touchdown strike.
The ‘Roos would add on another field goal with 1:15 left to
pick up the win. Sweeney rushed for 208 yards on 30 carries with a
long of 58 and Packard finished the game with seven tackles to lead
the ‘Roos, while Colter Headrick had a pair of interceptions.
This week the ‘Roos are back in Sherman to host
Sewanee.
Trinity suffered its first loss of the 2012 season last
Saturday, falling 62-35 against Sul Ross State University in
Alpine, Texas. The Tigers gave up 60 points for the first time
since 1962 against West Texas State. It also marks the fourth
consecutive loss to Sul Ross, with this past weekend being the
first meeting since 1981. Patrick Granchelli recorded his eighth
career 100-yard rushing game, piling up 126 yards and two rushing
touchdowns on 18 carries. He also had a third touchdown on an
eight-yard reception in the first quarter, as Trinity’s
offense picked up 533 total yards. Matthew Kennemer tied for the
second-most kickoff returns in school history for a single game,
picking up six returns for 143 yards. His yardage total is also
fifth in Trinity single-game history. Trinity will not get any
break after a tough week, as the Tigers will host second-ranked
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday evening. The Tigers
and Crusaders have been familiar foes in the postseason –
playing five playoff games since 2001 – but it will be the
first regular season meeting between the two teams since 1999.
Trinity still holds a slight 4-3 edge in the series, but UMHB has
won each of the last three meetings – all in the NCAA
Playoffs.
