LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The 2012 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament field is set as teams competed in the last regular season conference weekend of the year.
AROUND THE SCAC
Austin College went 0-1-1 over its final
weekend of the regular season, falling 2-1 to the University of
Dallas before drawing Division II foe East Central Oklahoma 0-0
after two overtimes. The ‘Roos fell in a 2-0 hole against UD
on Friday and were unable to climb out despite a late goal from
Franchesca Lozoya. Kelsey D’Amore and Abby Saizow each had an
assist on the goal. Against East Central, the ‘Roos were
out-shot 31-10 but a tremendous effort in goal by Lozoya helped
Austin College keep the clean sheet and earn a 0-0 double overtime
draw. Lozoya made 11 saves in the match in over 80 minutes of
action coming on as a substitute goalie in the 20th
minute.
Centenary (4-9-1, 0-8-0) went 1-1 during
the final weekend of the regular season. The Ladies began the week
with a 1-0- win over Texas College. Centenary then dropped a 4-0
decision to Dallas. The Ladies will entertain Louisiana College on
Tuesday and then get ready to compete in the SCAC Tournament over
the weekend. Centenary will be the No. 5 seed and will square off
against No. 4 seed Austin College on Friday at 6 p.m. at
Southwestern University.
Dallas went 2-0 on the road for their last
regular season games against Austin College and Centenary. The two
victories completed the Dallas season at 4-3-1 in the SCAC and
11-7-1 overall. Marin Chambers, a senior forward, had a goal in the
32nd minute of the match from an assist by Becca Brunter. Brunter
would then find the back of the net at the 70th minute with a free
kick from Kayla Nguyen. The Crusaders beat Austin College 2-1 at
the end of regulation. On Sunday, the Crusaders traveled over to
Shreveport, LA. The Crusaders came out strong and began the scoring
frenzy just under 5 minutes into the match. Brunter carefully
placed two goals in the net to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead into
halftime. Just around the 31st minute, Nicole Johnson, sophomore
forward, planted a volley right behind the Centenary keeper. Marin
Chambers would finish the game with another goal in the second half
by a corner kick from Melissa Carpenter. The Crusaders won 4-0 over
the Centenary Ladies. Brigid Hasson and Mary Quinn would get the
combined shutout on Sunday vs. Centenary College. With that
completion of the schedule, Dallas heads into the SCAC tournament
this upcoming weekend as the #2 seed and will play Southwestern on
Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Southwestern went 0-1-1 in action this week to close out
regular season play. The Pirates hosted Huston-Tillotson on Tuesday
night for senior night and despite a lopsided match that saw
Southwestern take 31 shots and allowing just two, the game ended in
a scoreless tie. Friday , Southwestern traveled to San Antonio and
had a strong first half and trailed 2-0 at halftime. The Tigers had
a big second half, scoring six goals to send the game to an 8-0
final. The Pirates close the regular season at 6-10-2 overall and
4-3-1 in the SCAC. They enter the conference tournament this
weekend as the number three seed and face the University of Dallas
on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
No. 7 Trinity capped the regular season with an
8-0 SCAC victory over Southwestern on Friday night, keeping the
Tigers unbeaten and untied in conference play for the fourth
consecutive season. The Tigers had two players score hat tricks to
account for six of the eight goals, and it was the second time this
season that two different players had three goals in one game.
Kelsey Falcone and Shelby Guenthardt both enjoyed their first
career hat tricks to lead the Tigers. Emily Jorgens and Stephanie
Segovia had their own hat tricks against Centenary in
late-September. Trinity will open play at the SCAC Tournament in
Georgetown, Texas, this weekend. The Tigers are the top seed in the
tournament, and have received a first-round bye. Trinity will play
either Austin College or Centenary in the SCAC Semifinals on
Saturday, with the game starting at 5 p.m. The winner will
advance to Sunday’s SCAC Championship, which kicks off at 1
p.m.
