COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Fourth Annual
Quony Cup, an all-campus soccer tournament commemorating former
men's soccer and lacrosse player Chris Quon, will be held on
Saturday, April 6, starting at 11 a.m. on Colorado College's
Armstrong Quad.
Quon initially organized the tournament in 2008 as the
“Answer to Cancer,” with proceeds donated to the
American Cancer Society and designated to young patients living
with cancer at a local hospital.
After Quon's unexpected passing due to a heart condition in 2009,
his friends at Colorado College decided to continue his legacy by
organizing a similar tournament in April 2010, renaming it the
“Quony Cup” in his honor.
The event, sponsored by CC's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
(SAAC) in conjunction with the Christopher Quon Foundation, serves
as a campus-wide fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The
Christopher Quon Foundation, managed by the Quon family, supports
organizations and fundraisers committed to fighting cancer in
addition to Chris' two alma maters: Lake Forest High School and
Colorado College. The foundation also provides grants to help young
people participate in sports, music and travel - three of Chris'
passions. For more information about the Christopher Quon
Foundation, please visit http://christopherquonfoundation.org/.
This year's tournament also will pay tribute to one of Quon's
teammates, Evan Spirito, who lost his battle against cancer in the
Fall of 2011. For more information about the Evan Spirito Memorial
Foundation, visit http://evanspirito.com/.
In addition to the tournament, this year's Quony Cup will feature
music, food and lawn games.
