Centenary College swept University of Dallas, 5-0, in the consolation match.
Current Trinity head coach Craig McConnell was a sophomore (and earned Second Team All-SCAC honors) on the program's last conference-winning men's golf team.
His experience, along with the play of All-SCAC performers Kalen Vos, Tyler Lehmann and Alex Hartzell, helped lead the Tigers to victory - the program's fourth overall SCAC men's golf title. Vos' 3-2 victory over Southwestern's Cameron Button clinched the title for the Tigers.
Based on a coaches vote prior to the championships, sophomore Kalen Vos of Trinity University was selected the SCAC Men's Golfer-of-the-Year, and first-year Michael Gebhardt of Southwestern University was selected SCAC Men's Golfer Freshman-of-the-Year.
Vos, a three-time SCAC Player-of-the-Week during the 2012 season, is currently sporting the 16th-best average score per round (73.88) among all Division III players who have played a minimun of 12 rounds (according to GolfStat).
Vos is the first Trinity men's golfer to earn Player-of-the-Year honors since 1995 when Ward Downing was recognized with the league's highest honor.
Southwestern University freshman Michael Gebhardt was named the 2013 SCAC Freshman-of-the-Year - the first such honor for a Southwestern player since current teammate and senior James Charles was named the league's Freshman-of-the-Year in 2010.
Now league champion Trinity, as well as Southwestern, which was ranked 21st in the latest Golfworld/Nike Coaches Poll, will play the waiting game in regards to a possible NCAA at-large berth. Brackets will be announced on May 5.
