LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - As SCAC schools gear up for the final exams and the end of the semester, there were only two games on the schedule during the week of Dec. 10-16. Dallas won its first SCAC game of the year over Centenary, 95-77 and Austin College dropped a tight 71-65 non-conference game to Hendrix.
AROUND THE SCAC
Austin College fell 71-65 at Hendrix on Saturday despite 17 points from Antoine Thompson and 14 apiece from Alvin and Alen Michael. The 'Roos are now 1-9 overall this season with the loss. The 'Roos trailed by just two points with under two minutes left, but the Warriors pulled away down the stretch to hand Austin College the loss. Thompson came off the bench to score 17 points and added seven rebounds and Alvin Michael had a career game, making all six of his field goal attempts to finish with 14 points while adding eight rebounds and five blocks. Alen Michael made 4-of-6 shots and added four rebounds and four assists to go along with his 14 points.
Centenary (5-4, 1-2 SCAC) fell in its only game
this week against University of Dallas 95-77 on Saturday. The loss
is the Gents second in a row as a big second half run was all the
Crusaders, who shot 52 percent this game, needed to pull away.
Senior Jonathan Blount led all players in scoring with 26 points
while freshmen Brett Bell added 13 points. The Gents look to bounce
back on Monday as they will play University of Dallas again on the
road at 7:30 p.m.
Colorado College has not played since extending its
extending its winning streak to four games with back-to-back
victories over Austin College. It marks the fourth year in a row
the Tigers opened their conference schedule with a pair of
victories. Ian Rewoldt is tied for 43rd nationally averaging 10.0
rebounds per game. With a career-high 17 boards during the 71-56
victory over the ‘Roos on Dec. 8, the senior forward climbed
four spots on CC’s career list and now ranks No. 24 with 392.
Junior guard Ryan Milne is tied for 48th in Division III with an
88.5 free-throw percentage. Colorado College returns to action on
Saturday, Dec. 29, against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville
at La Verne, Calif. The Tigers also play Occidental College (Dec.
30) and Chapman University (Dec. 31) during the three-game road
trip to Southern California.
Dallas (4-2, 1-0 SCAC) beat SCAC foe Centenary,
95-77 Saturday at the Maher Athletic Center. In the team's Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opener, Dallas grew their
41-39 halftime advantage into an 18-point victory. The
Crusaders converted on 33-of-63 (52.4 percent) from the field,
including 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) on the afternoon beyond the arc.
Senior forward Tanner Bruffey (Lubbock, Texas) finished with a
team-high 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting and a perfect 4-of-4 effort
from the free-throw line. Three other Crusaders entered
double-figures. Junior forward Ross Davidson (Dana Point, Calif.)
had 18 points, while sophomore guards Kym Malone (Richardson,
Texas) and Blaine Blackburn (Midlothian, Texas) contributed 14 and
13 points, respectively.
Southwestern had the week off for finals and
return to action with a big home stretch. They start with SUNYIT on
Monday at 7 p.m., followed by Howard Payne University on Tuesday at
6 p.m. and wrap up the week by hosting Hardin-Simmons University on
Thursday at 2 p.m. Southwestern sits at 2-5 on the
year.
Trinity (4-3, 2-0 SCAC) had the week off.
The Tigers will be off until after finals, resuming play on
December 17 and 18 at the Southwestern Classic in Georgetown,
Texas. The Tigers will face Howard Payne and SUNYIT in the
tournament.
