SHERMAN, Texas - Kristina Corona has been named the new head women's soccer coach at Austin College, athletics director David Norman has announced. Corona most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dallas, where she was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year last season.
"After a thorough national search we are pleased to welcome Kristina to the Austin College family," said Norman. "She brings tremendous knowledge and experience from both her time as an NCAA Division I student-athlete and as a head coach at the NCAA Division III level, and brings with her an outstanding understanding of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference from her time at the University of Dallas."
Corona is a 2009 graduate of the University of Tulsa, where she was also a member of the women's soccer team. In 2010 she took over a University of Dallas team that had gone 5-32-1 in the two seasons prior to her arrival, and in her three years at the helm she led the team to a record of 30-26-4, including 12 wins last season. This past season, she also coached three student-athletes to First Team All-SCAC honors.
"I could not be more excited about joining the athletics staff and family at Austin College," said Corona. "I feel honored to have the opportunity to lead the 'Roo women's soccer team to new heights and accomplishments. I look forward to utilizing my experience and knowledge to bring success to 'Roo Nation."
In addition to coaching at the University of Dallas, Corona has worked various soccer camps around the nation, including the Stanford University Soccer Camp in Palo Alto, California; Duke University Soccer Camp in Durham, North Carolina; UCLA Soccer Camp in Westwood, California; and the University of Texas Soccer Camp in Austin.
After graduating from Tulsa, Corona played for and also served as an assistant coach for the Fort Worth Panthers of the Women's Premiere Soccer League in 2010 and 2011. Corona has been a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America since 2010.
