TOWSON, Md. - Recent Trinity University graduates Justin Campbell (Victoria, TX/Memorial) and Elana Edwards (Austin, TX/Bowie) have been elected to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Track and Field/Cross Country Teams. Complete Release
Campbell and Edwards were named to the men's and women's Academic All-America Third Teams, respectively. Voting is conducted nationwide by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Each honoree received a bachelor's degree from Trinity on May 18.
Campbell earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in international studies (emphasis in Chinese), and a Bachelor of Science in business administration (international business). He amassed a GPA of 3.79 and graduated magna cum laude.
Earlier, Campbell was elected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Year, in voting conducted by the league's head coaches. At the SCAC Track and Field Championships, hosted by Trinity in April, Campbell won the shot put, hammer throw, and discus. His discus throw of 52.42 meters established a school record, and was the ninth-best toss in the NCAA Division III. Campbell recorded a mark of 13.23 meters in the shot put, and hurled 44.84 meters in the hammer throw.
He qualified for the discus event at the NCAA Division III Championships in May at La Crosse, Wis., and placed 13th of 20 competitors with a throw of 49.14 meters. Campbell was an All-American in the discus in 2009.
Edwards received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics, finished with a 3.97 GPA, and earned summa cum laude honors. She is pursuing a graduate degree at Trinity in teaching.
The talented Edwards captured two titles at the SCAC Women's Track and Field Championships. Edwards took first place in the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters, and the triple jump, with a leap of 10.95 meters.
The Tiger men's and women's teams won the SCAC Championships in record-setting fashion. Trinity coaches, led by Head Coach Marcus Whitehead, earned honors as the SCAC Staff of the Year for both the men's and women's teams.
