Trinity Men's Soccer Advances on Penalty Kicks Against Mississippi College

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Tiger men's soccer team advanced past Mississippi College with a 4-1 edge in penalty kicks in the Second Round of the NCAA Playoffs on Sunday evening. Box Score

Trinity and Mississippi College played to a scoreless tie through regulation and 20 minutes of overtime periods.  In the round of penalty kicks, the Tigers buried all four of its attempts, while the Choctaws hit just one of three.

Victor Araujo started things off by scoring the first penalty of the night, while Mississippi College missed over the cross bar on its first attempt.  Michael Micheletti then nailed his shot for the Tigers, and Mississippi College also scored to make it 2-1.

After Alan Castillejos made it three-for-three penalties for Trinity, goalkeeper Matt Cardone saved the next attempt for Mississippi College to set up the clincher.  Yuri Ribeiro buried the final shot to push the Tigers into the second round.

Cardone recorded six total saves to keep Mississippi College scoreless through 110 minutes of action, while Trinity's defense also made a team save.  Choctaws goalie Robert Jackson recorded seven saves to keep the Tigers off the board as well.

It was Trinity's 14th team shutout this season, while Cardone has recorded 62 total saves and 11 shutouts on the year.

Trinity will advance to face Montclair State University in the NCAA Third Round at a site to be determined by the NCAA.
