ABBY BLACKWOOD OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior from Malibu, Calif., been selected the SCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Monday, September 13 through Sunday, September 19. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 3)
Blackwood, the reigning SCAC Newcomer of the Year, paced the Tigers to a fourth-place team finish at NCAA I Abilene Christian University's Naimadu Classic in a field heavily comprised of NCAA I and NCAA II squads. Blackwood held a strong position to finish 12th overall and run 6:07 pace for 6.27km (23:52) despite the hot conditions and being led off course during the race.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Caeli Taylor of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs in the Westside Classic in San Antonio finishing the 6K with a time of 26:16.5 to place 22nd in a field of 65 runners. Taylor helped propel Texas Lutheran to a sixth place finish as a team only a few seconds behind Division-II Texas A&M University - Kingsville and who again topped the other Division-III teams (UMHB, Schreiner and Sul Ross) in the meet. Senior Sarah Endres of Schreiner helped her team to an eighth place finish in its season-opener at the Westside Classic hosted by OLLU. Endres ran a 26:44 over the 6K course in what was the women's first officially posted team score in three years.
