Newland led ninth-ranked Trinity to a weekend split, capped by the team's first shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over Claremont on Sunday. Newland and the Tigers have limited opponents to just five goals on the year and 16 shots on target, including just five in the last two contests.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore midfielder Jessica Robinson of Texas Lutheran was instrumental and key to the Bulldogs’ backline success last weekend with her solid 1v1 defending and ability to shut down the opponents forwards. Her tackling and willingness to win 50/50 balls was critical in helping TLU stay undefeated though the opening four games of the 2023 season.
