Nadia Kern, Trinity University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 4)

NADIA KERN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior libero from El Paso, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 18 through Sunday, September 24. SCAC Volleyball Release(Week 4)

Kern led 11th-ranked Trinity to three wins to open SCAC play last weekend, defeating St. Thomas, Southwestern, and Texas Lutheran. Kern finished with a team-best 79 digs over the three wins, averaging 6.08 digs/set over a total of 13 sets this weekend. She also led the team with eight service aces - including a weekend-best five aces in the 3-2 win over Southwestern. 

Kern was phenomenal in the weekend finale against defending SCAC Champs, Texas Lutheran. She managed a career-high 37 digs to lead Trinity to victory. The 37 digs moves her to third in school history for a single match.

Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
First-year libero Laynie Kovacs of Austin College led the ‘Roos defensively this weekend, averaging 6.3 digs per/set, including 7.25 digs per/set in the team’s first two matches in SCAC play. Kovacs and the ‘Roos went 3-0 overall and 2-0 against Centenary and Dallas. She had 32 digs against Centenary and 26 against the Crusaders, totaling 63 digs and only three reception errors in 10 sets played. First-year libero Meghan Gannon of Colorado College led the Tigers to a 2-2 record this weekend with 93 digs. Gannon posted a career-high 29 against the Celts and managed 15 assists and four aces during SCAC play. Junior defensive specialist Kara Spice of St. Thomas anchored a Celt Backrow that won two matches during SCAC play this past weekend. Spice recorded 72 total digs and an outstanding 6.23 digs/set. She also had an offensive showing with 12 assists and four service aces. Junior libero/defensive specialist Faith Coldewey of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs to 2-1 in SCAC play over the weekend. Coldewey managed double-digit digs this weekend, 4.17 digs/set and 50 total. Graduate outside hitter Brooke Byer of Schreiner led the Mountaineers to 2 wins over the weekend. Byer managed 93 digs this weekend, 4.65 digs/set and 28 kills on the offensive side of things.
